Mobility Radeon 9600 driver help PLEASE

Hello all, I downloaded catalyst 4.11 for my laptop. It has an M10 Mobility Randeon 9600 card. I downloaded it and then tried the modder. Everything seemed to work fine but, just as it was about to install the modded files it came up : "The display driver is not compatible with the display adapter."

What should I do guys?

I have a 9600 and the modder worked for me. I used the advice from someone on this forum so I'll quote what they said for the 4.10 but it also worked for the latest versions for me.

"Problem with the newer drivers and patjes modding tool is that ATi changed the inf-file slightly...
so, before you mod them you will need to alter the inf-file to make the modder work:
Extract the Driver Package
Go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\wxp-w2k...\Driver\2KXP_INF
Open the file CX_18719.inf(I edited the version number for the latest driver)
in this file you need to change this:
Code:
[Manufacturer]
%ATI% = ATI.Mfg, NTx86
[ATI.Mfg.NTx86]
to this:
Code:
[Manufacturer]
%ATI% = ATI.Mfg
[ATI.Mfg]
then mod the driver as usual..."

After I modded the driver it asked to go ahead with the setup and I declined and exited out. I then went to ATI\Support\wxp-w2k-8-071-041026a-018719c and ran setup from there. Windows whined about it not being signed and I continued anyway. Everything works and the card is properly identified. Follow these directions and it should work. Let us know if it does.

PS: If I were you I would delete the ATI folder setup has created and then start your installation of the downloaded file over again, following the above directions.

Have you tried the beta 4.12? I started downloading them to see if I could get them to work but quit it. I would think that if you tried it and the setup still didn't work, you could probably go to device manager, right click update driver and the point it to the xp inf. file. Then select the first 9600 pro or in my case it was Radeon 9600 series, you come to and see if it will. I used to do it that way on earlier drivers. The device description won't show it as mobility though it will say Radeon 9xxx series. I want to try it but when I install new drivers I have to go through an extra step too install Power Strip and add my 1280x800 resolution and then uninstall Power Strip.

I did what you suggested and the process seemed to work. However when I restarted catalyst control centre would not initialize. Does this matter? I mean are my drivers updated or did it fail? How can I tell? DO I need the catalyst control centre?

This may be a stupid question, but if the drivers installed and catalyst control centre is removed should I still get the benefits of the updated drivers? WIll I be able to use Directx 9.0c with these new drivers?

To tell if the drivers are updated go to system, hardware, device manager, display adapter, right click, select properties and look at driver version. It should be 6.14.10.6490(for 4.11). No you don't need the catalyst control center. You could try installing the control center again and see if it will work, and I'm sure it will. I think the setup file would be in the ATI\Support\Ace, I can't remember for sure because I always delete it after install. I like the old control panel myself but have both the old control panel and the catalyst control center installed. You can obtain each seperately from ATI. I'm on dialup and I usually download the driver, old control panel and the catalyst control center seperately.

i tried the 4.12 beta and they didnt work, DH Mobility Modder does not recognize the files to mod
i'll just wait for omegas verion of them, they always work better than the officials (at least for me they do )

make sure you have at least the .NET framework 1.1 (though i recommend using the .NET 2.0 beta), thats what i have installed and the CCC "works"

Is that something different than what windows update would detect needing? PC came with .net and I recently went to windows update and it updated 2 things that had the words net associated with it but each of them I think said service pack 1 and 3.
