Default Post Radeon 7500 and Windows XP Monitor black

Hello,

I have a dual boot WinME and WinXP and have recently acquired a retail
ATI Radeon 7500.

Due a known problem with AutoCAD screen (see a related article on ATI
website) I try to install the new wxp-radeon-6-13-10-6166-efg.exe
driver.

When botting into XP after loading screen closes my monitor goes to
black and nothing happens. I have found a lot of articles related to
power issues, BIOS settings and a lot of tricks but there is no sense
once the WinME keeps working fine.

So, I installed a fresh copy of Windows XP and only install the ATI
driver and XP Service Pack 1. Same problem shows up.

The strange thing is that using the old driver
wxp-radeon-6-13-10-6118-efg.exe everything works fine until I try to
use some Direct3D feature like a Windows XP PLUS screen saver. A blue
screen shows up pointing to an ATI driver file as the responsible for
the problem.

I'm using:
ASUS ATA266 (latest bios)
Windows XP PRO SP1
ATI Radeon 7500 64DDR (retail - not OEM)
Latest Ali Chipset drivers

Will an alternate driver solve this problem?

Is the ATI driver 6166 for Windows XP buggy?

Please help me because I need to use Direct3D features and AutoCAD...I don't have idea how strange the AutoCAD screen works with this bug...

Regards,
Fernando.

Hello,

I have done getting the oldest XP driver from ATI website.
Doing check points to be able to restore system I start to try the next driver release, one by one until archieve the 2.1 version.

After that, I went to SystemUpdate site from my XP start menu and get the latest Radeon 7500 driver from Microsoft.

Before doing the above steps put your AGP speed to 1x.
Even after install and got it running if I try to increase AGP speed to 2x or 4x the black screen shows up again.

I guess the ATI messed up the driver when they try to add more features due the Radeon 8500 release. So, theorically we only need the 7500 features so the Windows XP driver (it is digitally signed) works fine for me.

Note that on my Windows ME (using the latest ATI driver) I can put my AGP to 4x and everything runs fine.

This problem is certainly related to XP Drivers...
Guess ATI pay attention to this.

Good luck!!!
Fernando.

have the same problem in Windows XP

Have the same problem with a Radeon 9000 and Windows XP... In Win 98 everything runs fine. I tried the last catalyst beta for XP and it works better than the older catalyst. Guys, you should try them.
But they don't work perfectly sometimes... any one could help me please...
