Artifacts in 640x480 mode?

I am using the Cat 4.11 driver and since I have some artifacts problems with my card since I bought it I did some testing and find that those strong artifacts appear only in 640x480 mode. This explains why I do have this problem in 3Dmark03 only in CPU Test 1 and 2 which run in 640x480 mode. In 3DMark05 it's basically the same issue. For me the question is:
Is the Cat driver causing this problem for my card?
Is my card's bios or the card itself bad?

What else could that be?

Looks like this was my first and last Ati card in this life...

1) Far Cry Demo fails with critical exception
2) Ugly artifacts in 640x480 display mode (Futuremark)
3) 3D Mark03/05 stuttering all the way - only minor overclocking to 420/210 solves at least this problem.

...same problems even after a clean XP install. I payed 200 bux for this card - a cruel mistake never to happen again.
