Pissed Original ATI 9600XT - Constant restart, crashes, ect.

Ok, I've been working on this for weeks and I can't find the problem.

I have been playing World of Warcraft. It was fine till my computer started giving me Windows XP errors and stuff. Ok so I reinstalled windows xp (sp2) and like now the 9600xt tends to restart or crash (and is very consistant at it too) I have tried settings that Omega had posted. I tried ATI's drivers beta and old (orginal cd) and Omega's beta and old.

Lots of things comes up when I start up World of Warcraft or any games that would use 3D rendoring. 100% of the screen would flicker and artifacts shows up, and would randomly crash, or restarts my computer.

Would be great to have some insights, my brain is fried just thinking about it

Welcome!

um first thing first things we need your "full" system specs?

have you looked for an updated mobo bios/flashed it in?
Tried uping the AGP voltage +0.1V to 1.6V?
have you installed the latest chipset drivers etc?

only happens with this one game?

what about your PSU? How many watts is it, and how many amps does it have on the 12 volt rail? To me what it sounds like is that your devices aren't getting enough power, and your video card is showing symptoms.

Another possibility would an overclocked video card. Do you have your 9600xt overclocked at all? An overclocked video card would give the user very similar symptoms to what you are describing to us.

BTW, welcome to DH .

There are so many problems with the 9600xt and there is no way to fix em. All you can do is change some settings around to make it crash 'less often', for awhile I had to force my comp to AGP 4x just so the card would be semi-stable.. but I got pissed off one day and Updated everything... I flashed my mobo, updated direct x, updated to the newest ati catalyst... but still same thing... then... I upgraded by VIA 4 in 1 Drivers and BOOM.. hasn't crashed in two months... amazing. Of course this only applies if you have a via mobo... if you do.. get via drivers here @ www.viaarena.com. Peace
