Counter-Strike Freezing
wut will happen is ill play cs for about 5 mins and itll just freeze up into a soundloop.
once that happeneds i cant do anything but listen to the soundloop or hold down the power button. although once i waited a while and got an error message saying device failure or something. it seems to be caused by the video drivers as once i updated it happeneds more often. went from lasting about 30 mins to 5. i've tried the omega drivers and they can last much longer but they still freeze but not the same way. when it does freeze it'll sorta fade to a white screen without any soundloop. i have a ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600 (maybe 9700) WITH 128MB MODULE i get the drivers from the computer makers website as its mobile Pentium 4 3.00GHZ 512MB Ram 60 gig HD i've heard about the fastwrites problem and asked them about it but they say the options only avaliable on desktops. so is there anything i can do about this? |

Hmmmmmmmmmm............You may want to run drivercleaner and fix that. I dunno though interestingly enough I think it may be an OpenGL engine problem in CS. You could try re-downloading it. That might help. I dunno though.

I have the same problem. CS:S doesnt last more than 5 minutes. Happens with HL2 also although HL2 I can play up to 45 minutes if I am lucky. I have tried Cat 4.11, 4.12beta and Omega's 4.10beta and still the same. I even format my PC and still no luck.
I triec opening my dxdiag file and tested the Direct3D. The box was spinning so fast that it doesnt look like a cube anymore and cant see whats written on the side. Not sure whether this is the problem. Tried almost everything now and still have no luck.

Guys, I had lock ups in HL2 and once in CS.
One thing to note is that at least on my machine, changing any of the settings whilst in game will send the PC into a "freeze and sound loop". This however is temporary until the information is written to disk. It may take 30 seconds or so. Specs: Athlon 2400+ HiS ICEQ 9800 Pro 128 1 GB Corsair RAM SB Live! Value Windows XP SP1 DX9c Cat 4.6 drivers So far I have. Verified my HL2, CS:S Steam install. (search on www.steampowered.com forums.) Defragged my drive where Steam HL2 etc is located. Increased AGP aperture to 256 on my 9800 Pro 128 With 1 GB of RAM I run the following added to the launch path " -nojoy -console -heapsize 524288" so "D:\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 220 -nojoy -console -heapsize 524288" is the full entry. I'm running wait for it 4.6 Cats. Down from 4.12Bs. So far CS:S hasn't locked up after about 6 hours play. Yet to try HL2 which lasted about 20 minutes before lockup prior. Hope this may help you. |

i tried the cube thing, didnt spin very fast but i saw the writing. does d3d freeze up in cs for u?
and stoofy, when u change ur settings it freezes up right after? i've got my config as read only and all my settings in my userconfig so if i change a setting in game it'll never get written to disk. i've also verified my files but it didnt say anything at the end, same with u? i dunno wut this is : Increased AGP aperture to 256 on my 9800 Pro 128 or wut this cmd does or limits: -heapsize 524288 and i also got this from windows this morning although i dont have a IBM http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response...2d0c89&SID=705 http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site...cid=MIGR-50883 |

I got CS:S to work. Been playing for the past 3 hours. I lowered down my fsb from 222 to 215 and that seem to solve the problem. I havent tried HL2 yet though.

Well interestingly enough, I just upgraded to the latest Omega 4.12 drivers and my PC locked up in CS:S within 15 minutes of starting.
Is it a driver issue? |

looks like it, although it may just be some option that is enabled or disabled.
or maybe the bios, ill try updating that sometime and see if that does anything. Last edited by dumb assassin; Dec 4, 2004 at 11:58 AM. |

no luck with bios, although it does seem ot last longer.
is there a logging tool or something we can try in attempt to determine the exact problem or something? |
