Video Card overheat problems

Computer: Intel Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz HT
Video Card: ATi Radeon 9800 PRO 128 256bit structure.
Ram: 900MB

Okay heres my problem, yesterday while fixing my pc,I let it drop on my desk and than it made a bumping noise, opened my pc and found out the Fan fell out of the video card. I clipped it back on and now when I use my pc, the chip of the Video card turns VERY hot and than the PC turns off, freezes, or just sits there doing nothing (Freezes but is very slow). How do I fix this? How do i know if its the video card or the cpu/processer/something else. I could tel its somewhat the video card becuase when I do nothing it doesnt have any problems, but loading a game immediately makes the video card freeze or make the monitor go in standby mode.

One of the Fan clips broke so I used something I found to make it hold still,it holds still like before now,but the main chip of the card is now REALLY hot and when I barely turn it on, for hmmm 1/2 minutes it overheats and causes the PC to freeze. How do i fix this? Will a new fan do?

Edit: Forgot to mention during the broken clip part, my dad tried to put glue (chip already had some on but it wore out) on it and it didnt work so i rubbed it off after, it didnt seem to even show anymore but could this be a problem of it too?

ok that isnt glue that is heat tape which is a compound that helps cool down the chip. http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...721&pfp=BROWSE http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...930&pfp=BROWSE http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati....asp?CatId=498 i wouldnt run it to long without fixing it

No idea..But its the chip that says 'R350' with a ATi symbol and some other codes @ the end it says TAIWAN.

I have no idea what to do,if I turn on that pc with the video card it immediately overheats and turns off.

The FAN is on the MAIN chip which has that logo,it is clipped on to it.
It had a rubbery stubstance on top of it,which I took off.

Its obviously my video card, I just installed my PCI card in and the PC works like before (with the exception of the video card being slower). So it seems the card is overheating and turning off because of that. Will buy one of those fans tomorrow and see.

Will this do? http://shop1.outpost.com/product/365...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG

If you can see the actual chip, then it was the heatsink that came off along with the fan.

I'n not sure about the 9800, but when i took off the HSF on my 9500 when I went to water cooing, the 'thermal paste' was as hard as a rock, and it took a lot of time/patience and a lot of alcohol to get it off.

You sound like you don't have a lot of experience with computer hardware, and I suggest that you either find a friend that can help you fix it, or a local 'Mom & Pop' type computer shop that can fix that rascal for you. I'd only take it to some place like CompUSA as a last resort. That 9800 is still too good a card to take the chance of killing it.
