New ATI Drivers at windows updated?

I just notice a updated at windows updated that are dated official at 12/6/2004 I wonder these are the new 4.12 official ones or not. There for my abit 9600xt VIVO 256mb card. Should I go for it and see if there are the 4.12 officials? It would take me hour and half download them. There at 21.6mb

Robert,

NO NO NO, if you are using the beta drivers, or Omega's set then they are not WHQL Drivers, so Windows update will offer to install the latest WHQL that they have on their server. This wil be about 1 or 2 behind either the ATI or Omega's.

Never install video card drivers from the Windows update site, or any driver updates for that matter. It screwed up my system once. I recommend always downloading driver updates directly from the manufacturers website or trusted mod website, such as Omega.

Just my opinion. I've had great success following this rule.

but don't this depend on what service pack is installed(sp2 for me)...as this is a peculiar thing.i have yet to receive any notification to ati drivers via windows update,as i am using the 4.12 omegas.this is also when there are no drivers installed.

but this were always a pain when i used to use nvidia cards.

Agreed

Although I will use it as a GUIDE to see if maybe I forgot to check for newer drivers and then go to the manufacturer's site. But only as a guide.

I haven't made the ATI driver download mistake from MS in a while, but doesn't the WinUpdate version of the drivers ONLY contain D3D and not OpenGL? There's a good reason right there not to bother with them.

I just tell it to hide that update......WE know better.

The ONLY driver updates I have ever bothered to install from MS were LAN card drivers and the CPU updates. Anything else I see there generally gets ignored.
