Thick Vertical Lines with 9800se
Last night I played MSFS2K4 and had no issues and great frame rates. This morning when I booted up the computer, I see the Loading Windows XP screen, it looked normal. Then when Windows Welcome screen comes up, I have these thick vertical lines running top to bottom, all over the screen. The shift the text so that reading what is on the screen hard. This stays even when you enter Windows proper. Could this be a driver issue. I have a new system, Asus A7V8X-X motherboard, PowerColor 9800SE 256 bit 128 mgs ram. 1 gig ram. Temp isnt the issue, the temp gauge only goes up to about 95, usually runs around 85.
I am almost certain it is drivers, and I have been reading some bad things about 4.11. Considering deleting 4.11 and going to the new Omega drivers. Your thoughts? |

See if it only tends to occurr on startups after the system has been off for a while, and thus disappears after you restart once. Then it's a hardware issue but not necessarily a terminal one. I had it a few times when my 9800pro was fairly new but not lately. What type and capacity is the power supply in that system?

It is 400 watt that came with the Xdreamer case. So you do not think it is a driver issue?

ok, it was off all night and only did it at start up this morning. It is off now and when I get home, I will try to boot it up once more. I have heard it may be a seat issue too.

No Style,
I do not think that is it. Like I said, the entire unit is less than one week old. It has been running fine until this morning. I will switch off the PSU before booting again. Hopefully this will fix this. It is funny, during startup, up to the blue screen of windows loading (like the XP logo with the star trek thingie at the bottom) it looks fine. So I do not think it is a hardware issue. If it still does it, I will remove and reseat the card. It not that, uninstall the drivers, and reinstall. If that does not fix it. I will try the voltage thing. But it is odd that after only a week the PSU would be going. God I hope not. |

Well, I unseated the AGP after I turned off the PSU. Fired the computer back up and all is working well. Still have no idea what happened, but all seems to be working now.
Thanks everyone. |
