theirs not only a problem with .net 1.1 theirs also a problem how its implimented in windows.

i installed CCC no problem the first time with .net already from www.windowsupdate.com no hitches. the next time i installed CCC it wouldnt do it. basically i had looked into the control panel in windows and found some major problems, it had many versions installed. dunno why mabe someone else was using my computer or something, but basically removed all versions and installed .net 1.1 again, then it worked. /sp

if your having problems uninstall all versions and service packs of .net and reinstall the newest version, either use windowsupdate or search www.microsoft.com for a download.

the best alternative is to remove all old versions from the windows uninstall control panel/wizard, and install the .net beta 2.0 to get it to work, which has more fixes than 1.1, so while its still beta its better than .net1.1 (which should be a beta aswell)....

if you dont like that cause your to stuburn, or ignorint, then use the old control panel. ATI is doing what it can, tho microsoft also is a factor in this.... seems like the way its installed depends on how it runs windowsupdate may be messing things up, aswell as installs of Service packages too. this is a major thing that messes something up in the whole thing, this is likly causing the problems u see, run it by your guys andrew.

all i can say is i wish i was on the drivers staff at ATI, i could do alot of stuff tho im just working PR for a HL2 modification (anyone intersted check it out /spam www.totalretribution.com /spam_off.

the reason why people use driver cleaner is also weird, it does remove excess stuff, aswell as cleaning cab files which most installers dont do due to major factors (like time), the major thing that driver cleaner does reamove is the ati temp folder, the new version will be realsed in 2005 i belive should remove all of the CCC stuff i hope.

overdrive 3 works for only x800xtpe and up (i think? or was it 850?) and overdrive in general should run on any XT card, no pro card is garanteed to run in overdrive status... their are problems with modded drivers and modded or changed video bios's this may stop the install of overdrive... it changes some of the neccessary requirements that the installers look for to install overdrive or not.

the first release of CCC was good for me, the next i skipped the third was slow, i have yet to try this release but i think im going to wait until the 5.1 with the removal of the stupid prevew and intro crap that should be removed, or givin me the choice to remove.

2) & 3) It is unfortunate for those users who cannot get CCC to load properly that installing the .NET 2 beta seems to be the only solution right now. Yes I am aware that we have been saying since September (when CCC was released) that we have seen users with issues starting up CCC, but the unfortunate thing is that this looks like it is caused by an issue with .NET 1.1 - we have been having huge difficulty reproducing this in house (beleive me we wish we could; it would make fixing this issue easier). The only thing I can offer is try out the .NET 2.0 beta, which you don't want to do, or stick with the old CP. If you want to disable CATALYST A.I. yourself use regedit and search for a registry key called CatalystAI (REG_BINARY type) and set it to a value of 30.

4) The CLI bug (which last occurred in CAT 4.10) was a memory leak due to the flash screen in the welcome screen. CAT 4.12 CCC (all 3 CLIs) should use a total of 25 MB at most. Regarding CATALYST A.I. I can guarantee that you will see performance boosts in Doom3 and HL2. Also I know for a fact that CAT 4.12 fixes the TW2004/2005 issue for 9700 users

The only recommendations I can recommend for you is install .NET 2.0 and install the CAT 4.12's if this is not acceptable then use the CP or one of the many tweakers available until the official .NET 2.0 is released.

Regarding your other points:

1) Latency issue - I'm not sure what you're referring to
2) What SSE options would you like to see? Who's mentioned this - I honestly don't remember any talk of options for controlling SSE instructions (I actually don't see why we would either)
3) The CATALYST un-installer should remove all ATI files from your system. I'll look into this further to see if there is an issue
4) We leave the drivers on the system so it's easy for users to role back to older drivers - just delete the directories if ou don't like them
5) Don't think we ever said we don't support fastwrites - SMARTGART determines whether fast writes work on your system, if it fails then we disable it.

I wish I could tell you I had a fix for you so you can get CCC running with no problems on your system, unfortunately there are issues with .NET 1.1 (which ATI has no control over getting fixed - well we're trying to get them to release patches, but we've had no luck)
Thanks for your reply appreciate it, I know my post was long. CCC, will never use it anymore. ATI has turned me off on it already. I'll stick with community made tools. Less memory, faster performance. .NET well, I might try it but considering I'm not going to use CCC at all, I probably wont in the end.

TW2005 is "not" fixed. I'll send you a screenshot or two when I am back home.(EA in email claims it's your problem). Doesn't matter much anymore since I play HL2 DM more than ever, for the rare time I play TW2005 it's just not worth it(but there are issues)HL2 on the otherhand performs well enough..As for the rest of my post, nevermind, it's just not worth the effort to get the answers. I'll just accept what I've read on other sites for the answers. Good or bad.

There will come a point in the life of windows when you will have to use .net - it wont even be an option. Unless you move to linux.

Well this release (Cat 4.12) was the first time i used Ati's CCC and i must say i was impressed. I didnt have any issues with it, install went normal, no problems at all. It takes some time to get used to the new layout but other than that its fine. One thing i didnt like was the inicial loading time, kinda anoying for a driver CP to take that long to load, but i guess im still used to the old CP. Overall ill gave it an 8, i think ati still has a long way to go with it, controls are a bit confusing and the inicial loading should be cut down.

I give it an 8/10... very fast (overall) to the point I don't even notice any slow down when logging on! Once the memory usage goes down a bit more (I hate having another CLI.exe just for the system tray icon) it deserves a 10. So far, I've never had any stability issues. Even when using .NET 2.0 beta (thanks goes to both Microsoft and ATI on that one!) Great work, soon to be excellent work once that one issue gets cleared up

I can't change the monitor's refresh rate to anything higher than 60 Hz with CCC. Works fine with CCP.

yup there are two cli.exe running.
My problem is that usually when you changed profiles the cursor will automatically reset to center but this doesn't happen when I tried to change profile after playing a game.

Actually if the system tray is running as well then there will be 3 CLI.exe files running, one for the CCC runtime, one for the CCC user-interface, and one for the CCC system tray.

This is based on the .NET framework (which uses a server / client model) - the CCC runtime is the server and both the UI and system tray and clients.
