well normally 64 meg is ok, but with your memory configuration I would set it to 128 meg and test with benches etc....... ive mine set to 256 meg, as I find this gives me the best performance with no issues. experiment with different settings.

I've never seen this feature in my Bio's well I really haven't looked. I just know I set it up as 4x. I'll check around for this and I really hope it helps me out.

Zardon, what kind of difference do you see between settings of 128MB and 256MB? Just curious.

well ive found on my last multiple processor MP athlon rig, that if I used an aperture size of anything less than 256 I would get occassional lockouts.

I dont see any performance gains from moving the sizing from 128 to 256 but I have found that the system stability is higher. im sure this is very rig specific. are you experiencing any problems yourself? have you tried all the settings and benched etc?

there is also a known issue with the 8500 if you have 512 meg of system ram or more.
ATI recommend on their website to set your aperture to a minimum of 128 meg or possible slowdowns may occur.

I've had best results with 256.

Default Post the higher the better as long as you have enough system memory

I only use 128mb aperture because I have 256mb ram sticks but I have 768mb of ram.

Well... I did have problems, lockouts and such, but now I have a much bigger problem: My 8500 just stopped working yesterday

Something went awry with the mem, I suppose, as the picture was all scrambled, and even the text-mode screen at bootup was mostly unreadable. I managed to do a blind flash with the original bios (it's not that hard, as there's only the flasher dir and a couple of keypresses to remember), but there's no difference.

So here I am, using a borrowed voodoo3... I prolly won't even be able to RMA the card due to the markings caused by the removal of the ramsinks I just did. That arctic alumina adhesive is all but impossible to scrape off completely without taking at least part of the markings on the chip with it.

So I'll just hope me and my girlfriend can find those practice jobs we need for the summer/fall or we won't be able to afford a new vid-card for a long while. For a full time student 200€ is no pocket change. So if anyone knows about/has a job for us (in the computer branch: programming, web-design, anything) feel free to pm me

My motherboard only offers 32 and 64 MB AGP aperature choices, so I'm using 64 with my 8500DV and 512 MB of RAM system. :-/
