Ok, just registered and thought that it would be good to ask this in here, where all the driver-coding gurus are...
.The problem: originally the Radeon 9000 nonpro is nonoverclockable. Means that you can set the clocks with Rage3DTweak or Powerstip, BUT as soon as you start 3D app, it resets the clocks to default (well, after ~10 seconds). After a lot of thinking and testing, i found out that the way to get the OC staying is to mod bios. This works. You don't even need to change clocks, just change ONE hex in chipinit strings to something else and clocklocking is removed. The problem: so overclocking works, i've voltmodded my card, it goes to 295/225 from default 250/200. Win98SE works like charm. BUT the NT based drivers wont load! They install ok, no errors. But on next boot, Win2k/XP loads the VGA mode driver... blah. If i flash back to default bios, Win2k/XP drivers load, but then overclocking wont work... there's a thread bout this in Rage3D forum (9 pages). I've tried Catalyst drivers, all that support 9000 Radeons. Oh, i haven't tested those new 6193's yet. Gonna try them today when i get to my comp. |

So i tried the 6193's with no luck; even the Win98 drivers stopped working if i use modified bios. Ati is really starting to annoy me with this kind of crap... it really seems that this has been made on purpose.
