well there are alot of people in here that claim to know what's going on, but people the only one in here that knows anything about these drivers is Zardon, and possibly Veridian. (along with the beta testers).

well what can i tell you about 5.1's?
-it wont have digitial vibrance (whatever that is) as suggested on these forums
-it will be available sometime between now and a week from now
-i havent seen any performance increases reported on them
-CCC will support all RADEON's now and should run faster

Nothing major to be honest. Just a decent, solid update without much flash and bang

That is a bit disappointing, I'm really missing it as I've just moved from nVidia to ATI.

You don't know what digitial vibrance is?...that=sad im afraid to say. ATI needs to quit releasing drivers that have no features or new implementations, so what your saying is that these drivers arent any different than the 4.12?...if not, why release them? And you seriusly need to think about putting digital vibrance in there.

Yea, there needs to be alot of performance fixes in the new drivers, who cares about CCC? I know I dont. (Digital Vibrance in your drivers would also atract more customers)

Ok firstly I suggest you read the posts before commenting and then before you comment you post with a little respect. there will be performance increases with CCC as Terry said and just because you dont like CCC, doesnt mean others feel the same way. There are going to be some exciting developments with CCC trust me on this and its improving quite well I have to say. Have a little faith in Terry and ATI.

DVC is just a 'gee wiz' feature in my opinion. When I had an Nvidia card, I played with it and then always ended up just turning it off. Just makes all the colors look wrong.

personally the performance of recent catalyst has been good for me, mind you i bought an X800 Pro so that could be why i am happy with performance. i would think when a company moves to monthly driver releases, bug fixes tend to be the most noticable changes unless they discover something major in the interm.

When I had my ti4400 I always kept it on, no question. Everything always looked drop dead gorgeous with it on.

Whenever I'm messing with pictures now, I'm always upping the contrast and saturation.

Example of digital vibrance:

I used it on my nvidia card yes and its impressive, but that image is highly suspect, that is not just a saturation or contrast increase that is virtually a total removal of magenta from the cyan midtones (and green leaf), if my original image looked that poor id be asking questions.

Say that again, slowly, then think about it, how many people think "ooh, Ill get that gx card, cause its got digital vibrance!!", um, none, cause its just a contrast boost really. EDIT : In fact it wasnt even mentioned on my GFX card box, And its not hyped up on the nvid Site either, its a nice tool but not a "must have" feature. not on a Samsung TFT anyway

Anyway the ATI team are *as always* working on subtle changes to the drivers, optimizing the code a bit better, and developing the CC a bit more, (shame really because I bought a 6800 just as the CCC was getting somewhere, and the bugs I switched from ATI for Like the KOTOR crash bug, was fixed, grr).

Right, I sincerly hope the 5 series drivers suck, yes, thats right, if ATI came out with a uberset that made the x800 series totally destroy the 6800, I would cry, so ner :P No seriously , damn fine job you're doing CM, keep it up

I think the x800 series already blow the 6800 outta the water.

On an ATI card, it will NOT be called Digital Vibrance. It will be called Color Radiance.
The CCC will work for ALL Radeon cards in the 5.1's. There's your new feature.

I'm afraid it will never come.

It will come, all in due time. I prefer a faster and more stable CCC with options to disable the splash screen and game preview window

I hardly look in the CCC itself anymore, i have all kind of settings under my rightmouseklick/profiles:

4xAA/8xAF
6xAA/16xAF
AA/AF Appl contr
etc. etc. etc.

A whole list with all the settings i want. I think this was usefull when i noticed the long loading times of the CCC itself.

Terry! one question:

now, in Cat 5.1, CCC can support two or more installed Radeon videocards?
I have X800 AGP and AIW VE PCI.

Yeah, me colors look good, also performance is actually quite good (aside from the memory leak/aperture size/largesystemcache business).

From what he said it seems that the improvement is in CCC, which I don't use anyway.

Do wish that they get together with VIA to fix the 8X AGP bug. Other than that, I'll be happy to get the new drivers at least they are trying.
