Default Post Radeon 8500 vs. CFS 3

Hi Lads,

I'm having a pain with M$-Combat Flight Simulator 3 CFS3. My specs:

AMD 1600 XP+
Soyo Dragon Plus
512 MB DDR RAM
Radeon 8500 - 9068 Beta Drivers
Fortissimo I Soundcard
Win 98

Problems with CFS3 are:

1) If playing on Detail Setting above 2 --> Crashes and Stutters
Most of the time, system freezes prior mission start.

2) If playing on Detail Setting 1 - 2 --> works but looks baaad.
Frames are very good (40 - 50)

I am of the opinion that with my system, I should be able to run it on Detail Setting 4 without problems.

Have tried some settings in the CFS3 Config - didn't help.

Is there anybody on Radeon 8500 with similar specs who can run it? If so, can you let me know your settings and which ATI Driver you are using.

I'm desperate - any help is highly welcome - really

Many thanks in advance!

God, how I hate that fiddeling around 3 weeks until it works hehehe...

My specs:
AMD 1200 (200 fsb)
QDI Kinetiz 7b
896 MB sdram 133
Radeon 8500 Omegadriver
Sound card Terratek 512

I can play CFS3 at 30-50 at a detail level of 3, very little stutter, your system should run it better.
For changing settings in the CFS3config, please chek in shim-outhouse.com, there is a lot of information.
Tweaking a bit win98 will also help, look in pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1320&page=2 (I dont know ho to put the link, sorry), setting PageBuffers=32, MInTimeSlice=40, DMABufferSize=64 and MaxBPs=65530 in System.ini (386enh section), really improved my system.
Also I instaled the latest drivers for my MOBO (one of the biggest improvements).
Hope this will help, (any way the game is not one of MS best, may people has given up).
