Yeah it could have been better. I actually experienced an fps drop in some games like Rome: Total War and Star Wars Battlefront. Maybe Omega can help us with this one.

See my other post, but it's still as stable as the last one...

1 is better than 0, i'm really sad to give that score, because i love
the conceipt and the style is excellent

But it's useless, now i'm almost sure...
This time was my last try, i'll keep the Control Panel version now

Gave it a 5, not many new features and still buggy. Its sitting locked up on me after I went from RGB cycle to classic effect with the preview showing. Don't know if that's what caused the lockup, but there it is (my opinion that is).

Sorry, all that crap to load it up?

ATI instructions didn't say unibstall anything. I get the same as above. Gave it a 1, because no 0 is available.

I gave this version a 1 for several reasons and I havent even messed w. it that much. First of all takes forever now for my desktop to load up. Second of all the CCC takes about 1 min to load up. Third the one time i got it loaded up i was simply trying to navigate through the menus and it locked up. IT has locked up on me more than any of the other versions combined already. Finally One of the times i had it loaded up it was using very excessive RAM. One process was at 128MB and another one was at almost 60MB. I have not seen this ever in any of the other versions. I am definitely dumping this version and going back to the classic CP.

Note: This is only the 3rd CCC I have tried but this one sounded promising unfortunately it didnt work out for me.

EDIT: I am using .net 2.0 beta which is what i had the other times i tried the CCC.

It is still slow and quite wierd running 3D application.

I tried the CSS Stress test :

1st time : 47 fps
2nd time : 53 fps
3rd time : 44 fps
4th time : 44 fps and i stopped there...

well before with omega 4.12 i was getting 54 FPS solid, i think the memory management is the key but as you 'll respond "Thanks to the great .NET thingy"

It is so slow.
One question to people that are using .NET 2 beta, is there a speed improvement or any other?
It could be cool to make a review between the two running CCC...

yes, you may have to uninstall all that stuff, DONT BE LAZY... and if you are, we dont really want to hear it, cause were just going to call you lazy. :P
im joking just relax :P <---

anyways tho, MS seemed to have messed something up with the .net installs, so thats the primary problem, i think it has something to do with windowsupdate and SP2 and the seperate installs and the .net service pack updates, something in that line messed up the .net installs so you must uninstall all versions of .net and reinstall... i dont think its ati's fault at all, UNLESS they didnt see something along those lines, but i doubt it.

Why CCC?

I tried it, and, although I haven't had any particular issues, I was very much unimressed and gave up on it. Here are several reasons:
1) It consumes much more resources than CP
2) .NET Framework - When CCC first came out, it required .NET Framework 1.1. Now I heared form people that a later version is required. (Although official ATI's page still says 1.1.) Not that this caused me any problems, but I don't think that there should be special prerequisites for a graphics card driver since that is one of the things that every PC needs to start operating normally.
3) The only genuine feature of CCC that should be the advantage of CCC over CP is preview. My personal oppinion is that the test is too simple and that it merely explains the function of AA. It does not show how any particular game will look and perform with certain settings, so it is almost useless.
ATi people, please work on theese things, and, untill you make CCC better, please don't try to force us to use it like you are now by not including support for new features (like A.I. settings) in CP. That's really not OK.

When they get CCC lean and mean and more efficient with regard to resource usage, like some of the 3rd party applets then I'll vote it higher. Gave it a 5 in current state of revision.

well... remember winamp and their version 3, it didnt do good at all, why? cause it was bloat and everyone knew it. version 5 was alot better, but still somewhat bloat it takes a while to load up compaired to version 2.x but its much better than 3. they had to make 5 because of the public response.

i hope ati makes changes accordingly because of the users response, but i like their ideas and im going to stick with them, at the very least they might be able to get a really really good coder (not that they need one, but it would help).

8!

The CCC looks nice and runs faster than ever--but still not fast enough. The old CP is still my favourite because it's fast and way not that RAM-hungry. Hope the CCC will be fine in spring with NET 2.0!

Raff

this is why i gave it a 4, it was nothing i expected it to be, the big jump from 4.12 to 5.1, all i was expecting something huge, like why didn't u just call it 4.13 and keep going until u think up something big and make the change into the 5's.

Well, the "5" doesn't mean a big jump at all. ATi uses the first number of the driver-version to show the year of release--2005. And the "1" means January.

Greetings,
Raff

Sad 1st time i had probs with cat drivers

I just installed the cat 5.1 driver and everything seemed fine. Later on when i rebooted pc, it loaded 1/2 way and just b4 desktop comes up screen went black and stayed that way.

Keeps doing that.

Loaded it up in safe mode and then told it to restart. I managed to get it to load up. I just un-installed cat 5.1 CCC and tried to re-install cat 4.12 CCC.

Everything was fine untill right at the end of the CCC installtion, it error comes up sayin:

" Internal Error 2203. C:\Windows\Installerz2490d.msi, - 2147287008"

Says to reboot pc, i do and i have the driver installed but no CCC.

I gave it a 1. After installing, my system went to He!!. In device manager, suddenly may devices show up with yellow exclamation marks. Had to reinstall drivers. One Plug and Play item wouldn't reinstall, so I removed it and rebooted. Windows never found it again. Sound is gone. Reinstalled drivers and no better. Reinstalled chipset drivers and no better. Windows no longer shows Welcome screen.

I've tried the options given here, reinstall .net 1.1, instlall .net 2 beta, no good. I've done tech support for a software company before, and I know the canned response, "Sorry sir, your system must have been on the verge already, and this installation just tipped it over the edge...". The machine has been running perfectly up intil Cat install. Been playing Half-Life 2 and other graphics intensive apps w/o trouble.

I'm gonna try reinstalling DX9. Then try reinstallig windows/service packs. Finally will format and start from scratch. If I have to format, I'll try cat 5.1 ccc again, but it will be one of the first things I reinstall. Life's too short to spend 2 days rienstalling software and have ATI mess it up again.

???

i have never had any probs with catalyst drivers before and all of a sudden i do with the latest catalyst 5.1 driver?

It makes my pc hang, whenever i restart pc with this driver? PC almost loads up, but just b4 desktop comes up screen goes black?

Had to go back to catalyst 4.12.

It's ok this time, cos there are no real performance improvements inthe 5.1 driver. BUT i am sure later on in the year new drivers willhave some and i will want to use them.

Is this just a one off? i hope so

Buggy

The last one I rated an 8, this one gets a 1 and would be a 0 if there were such an option. I installed, got that infamous error that's already been posted, uninstall, reboot, reinstall reboot... i thought things were fine, but the sound was messed up when playing Max Payne 2. After playing with drivers and other settings, I just quit the game when it got really bad, and pulled up my task manager... to my shock, 88% CPU was being used by CLI.exe. That was riduculous on top of insane memory usage. Just installed the old control panel.

Results? Put the game in 1280x1024 4xfsaa and whatever aniso setting the game likes, runs smooth as butter and sounds great. Nice little 9600XT.

I'm gonna have to say these are the worst drivers I've experienced since before the Catalyst days. These drivers brought me nearly instant crashing in Half-Life 2 and other source titles when the 4.12's work just fine.

I thought this was supposed to be a bugfix release, no? I didn't think they'd add bugs that ould make one of the most popular current games crash spontaneously.
