Catalyst driver 3D tab--> Compatibility

I only have the old ATI control panel, so I assume the CCC has some option tab similar like to tihs ... Anyway, under the ATI Control Panel-->3D-->Compatibility ...

How many items in there? Only 2?
Support DXT texture format

Alternate Pixel Center

I see only those 2 with a 9600, but with a 8500/9000, there are also "Support 32-bit Z-buffer support" and "Alpha dithering method"?

I know you can use Radlinker, ATITool and whatnow, but why are there different options with different chipsets? Can they add the w-buffer option "back" for the older chipset? (since they make the options different anway?)

You need to click the OGL radio button and then go in THAT compatability tab to see the options for OGL

The CCC has them all on one page

There are less options needed in the compatability tab for R3x0 and R4xx cards

So you dont get Alpha dithering method for example

Also newer cards had their W-buffer removed so that option isnt there for those cards

No W-buffer can cause problems in some older games

Nvidia no longer have a W-buffer in any cards in the 5x00 and 6x00 cards either

Hmm ... i am not sure about the 6xxx series, but the 5xxx series ALL have w-buffer support in hardware. It is set to enabled in default on driver. For more control, you can use RivaTuner and etc.

But that's not the point ... i was wondering for those newer chipsets that have fewer options ... are those 32-bit z-buffer and etc. enabled or disabled by default?
