AA not working
hey,
for some reason, AA isnt working... well, it IS, but not properly... dont think that this is because of my tweak that i posted... ive had this problem for a fair while... since i got my card actually... my tweak fixes 20% of the problems, but some of them are still there... ill post some screenies.. my specs: amd athlon XP 2600+ MSI RX 9800 pro 128mb Asus-A7N8X-X |

After playing in the registry you seriously wonder why it isn't working?

Dont think that this was because i was stuffing around in the registry... i had this problem wayyy before i started going in the reg...
i actualy started editing my registry stuff to try and get it working... As i said, the tweak helps and fixes about 20% of the stuff, but its still there, and as annoying as hell. anyways, here are the screenies. All were done at 1024x768 32bit colour, 6xAA. http://img184.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img184&image=11fa.jpg http://img198.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img198&image=23ln.jpg http://img183.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img183&image=39ct.jpg http://img197.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img197&image=41dw.jpg http://img200.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img200&image=50rd.jpg Also, even though AA doesnt work, The performance impact is still there, so if you play at 6xAA, it will be exactly the same a 0xAA. AA is working in those shots. What you are seeing is the "shimmering" that the new DX9 lighting affects causes.
Try 4x with your card- you will get much better performance. Or go to a higher resolution and use 2x AA. Nothing can be done about that shimmering affect you are seeing. There is a thread around here somewhere about that.

There was some game that annoyed me with the same thing, and turning AF on solved it, but it doesn't work for HL2. Maybe it's because AF is angle-dependant on all todays cards and theese pipes are vertical.

for me, hl2 has the worst shimmering... but every game i have has it. it never used to be like this until about 2 weeks ago...
ive tried turning AF on on all the different settings, but nothing seems to work. Also, i wanna try uniAN drivers, is there an english site? |

When you think you "fix" it, take some screenshots- it will look the same as the screenshots you just gave, the only way to really help it is to use a higher resolution. I think maybe you just started noticing it??

wait. your right... i had it wayyy before then, but back then i had a 19" moniter and i ran stuff at 1600x1200.. that broke down, and theyve been fixing it for about 2 months now, so im stuck on 1 10"... which is like an ATM screen.
i only started noticing it when i used the DNA drivers. That made it worse. ive also formatted 3 times in the last 4 months, so i've had to re-install direct X a few times, but shimmering was never this bad. it was barely noticable untill i used DNA drivers. THEN it went real bad. Last edited by Duranix; Jan 25, 2005 at 02:30 AM. Reason: thought of more |
