75mhz........ it should be smoother and less strain on you're eyes.but go for 85mhz if you're monitor supports it.

I think it depends on the person and the light they are in. Personally, I can't tell the difference between 60 and 100. Household and office lights typically refresh at a rate of 60mhz, so that can create problems with computer screen. Also, as far as I know, things are different whether your monitor is LCD or CRT.

Yes you want performance,i have mine set at 85 thats the max supported @ 1280 x 1024 pixels for my crt.if this is set at 60mhz then i see the refresh flicker and this strains my eyes..
so i agree with Vikingod's comment also.......my be a little trial run required for the different settings.but going over the max supported for the screen rez can do serious damage to a screen.should tell you the supported rez/refresh in youre monitors manual. |

Basically Refresh Rate=Max Framerates so if you use 85 you should get 85FPS max(with V-synch on of course) as for people who have V-synch off and go on about their 200FPS its a complete waste as I dont know of many monitors that can do that kinda refresh. I personally run mine at 1024x768@100Hz so I get 100FPS(yes I know, I like my Low Res)

I prefer 60Hz for games and 85Hz for desktop. That what I have it set as in my Control Panel.

then in that case essence youre only seeing 60 frames per second
also you will cause yourself eyestrain although your card may be drawing more than 60 frames per second your eye isnt seeing them at 60Hz. The more Hz the more fluid the image on the screen appears at all times. Also Hz on your monitor wont affect what your graphics card can do unless its vsynced in the drivers. |

imo, here are the best Refresh rates if your using v-sync:
60/90/120/150 Divisables of 3 For some reason they just work better don't ask me why. I find 85 vs 90 quite different. I think i can pin it to it not being divisable. But generally, higher the better. Thier is a point with v-sync that you are drawing more on your system for the video card causing it to actually produce worse results.. but it's rare. What game do you plan on playing, resolution.. quality settings? why are you concerned for PURE preformance if you don't mind me asking?

whoa, mhz? i have yet 2 see any one with their monitor set higher than 100 hz, think about it, obviously your monitor is not going to refresh 85 million times per second, that is way beyond our technology...

I can see difference between 85 and 100 Hz if there are bright colors, and everything less than 85 Hz is unconfortable for me. 60 Hz can damage Your eyes badly (not on LCD though).

60hz is known for causing eyestrain which, longterm, can cause damage to the eyes.
anything that makes the blood vessel expand unnaturally in your eyeballs should be considered unsafe.....

If you've got a good monitor, then 60Hz (only for games) isn't bad. I use 60Hz for games, 85Hz for desktop, I don't get any flickering at 60Hz and I get no eye strain either
. Having VSync on will not result in image tearing when the framerate goes higher than your Refresh Rate . Having it runed off is a bad idea in MY opinion.

erm, actually having your framerate go either below or above your refresh rate will produce tearing reguardless of what you do. IF you using a CRT, 60hz gives me a headache in under 15 minutes.

Flashing lights can bring up suppressed memories. This is a proven psychological practice. Use 60hz at your own risk.
