I ask if the 2 driver genius Omega & Cyborg can try to make up and optimzed set of driver for this Morrowind.
I have an AMD 1200, 512RAM, Radeon 8500 but the game is so damm slow can you try to do something ? Thanx a lot Bye |

I just read somewhere that upping the APG aparture to 256MB or even higher helps alot !

I will try to put it to 256 but I don't think it will help a lot.
This Morrowind is a great game but the graphic engine is programmed too BAD I never see something so slow like this Bye Ps : sorry for my bad english |

Actually, I disagree. I think that the game is coded rather well. You just might have your settings or resolution too high.
What are you trying to run the game at? |

I am running it on a TB 1200, 512 RAM PC 133, Radeon 8500, Sblive! at 1024x768
This configuration is even better than raccomanded but the game is so damm slow, and if you look even in morrowind forum it is full with ppl that get low performances with super pc. I turned shadow off, view distance at 50%, AI near. |

Hmmm...
Well, I'm running it at 1024x768x32 x64 Aniso 50% View Distance Shadows Off and AI at about 30-40% Inside: 30-80fps Outside: 15-30fps T-Bird 1GHz, 384mb PC100, Radeon 32DDR (o/c to 191mhz), Windows XP With the pace of this game, those rates are very playable. The only slowdown I have is when it's loading into a new area. |

I can not believe that with a radeon 32 you can get that framerate....

I'm just in the middle of reinstalling XP - I'm gonna try and run Morrowind several times before and after installing specific drivers and applications (like norton antivirus).
I'm using the latest Red / Omega drivers (71a). |

I have the game and I tried all the tricks i read around many forums but nothing seem help so much. This game is so damm slow, I have many other game : RTCW, MAX PAYNE, BG 1/2, Dungeon Siege and many other and with no one of them i have a problem... with morrowind it is another story and I also have my sound struggling after 1 hour of play.... with other game it is perfect and I can keep on playing for days.
So why all other games need no tricks or setup ? The first time I tried MW I had 256MB RAM and a Radeon VIVO and so I told to my self hmmmm you need an upgrade so I added 256MB RAM but I see almost no difference, so I bought a new Radeon 8500 and it is a little smoother but not so much and I still have sound problem and slow down performance after a while. I had a bad experience with Daggerfall some years ago and now it is the same story. This could be a great game with another graphic engine. I am very disappointed. Just remember, this is the game that brings even the best systems out there to their knees. Make sure that your computer is running to the best of it ability.
Defrag your HDs Tweak the OS Disable programs running in the background Possibly even try a little overclocking (FSB and/or videocard) I have found that the 6071 Driversets seem to work the best for me BTW, Morrowind runs worlds better than Dungeon Siege could ever have dreamed running. If you can get DS to be playing on your machine, you should be able to get Morrowind too. |

What kind of framerate are you getting? Remember, this is a RPG not a FPS, you don't need a high framerate to have it be smooth and playable.

I just tested my FPS in Balmora at 1024x768 view distance 75%, AI near, no shadow and no pixel shadin and i get 10-20 FPS, walking outside town i get 20-25 fps and inside the house i have 40-100 fps

I really think it's something else bringing the framerate down... On my system at 1024 or 1600 I get the exact same frame rates no matter what.
I run my Veiw Distance at 75%, AI 25% full shadows and pixel shaders, and at 1600x1200 I get 25-35 in balmora. I get the same framerates at 1024 also. So I'm wondering if maybe something in the game may be hogging all the CPU cycles? Or putting an uneccasary load on the computer? I run Morrowind on my Dell notebook with a 7500 64mb also at 1600x1200 I get about 20 frames in balmora with it. Do some tests on your systems, play with the resolutions you really don't framerate hit changing your res. Which leads me to beleive it's something else responsible. If a game runs slow at 1024, then at 1600 the framerate should drop through the floor, and on my system it stays the same +/- frame.

Try turning off the sound in the ini file, like change it to nosound=1 instead of zero. Also, go into the control panel and the sounds or multimedia section and then pick audio tab, then the advanced button, then the performance tab and turn the bar down two notches so the hardware sound it turned off. The SBLive could be causing a problem, particularly if you are losing sound after a while. And that card is a buggy piece of scheisse to begin with anyhow. So if you disable sound in the ini and things improve then turn the hardware based sound down, also make sure if you have the directx control panel that the direct sound debugging bar is turned all the way down. If if turning the sound off doesn't help I'd still try this.
I don't think the game was coded bad at all, it's just very advanced and requires a lot to turn and you have to face facts that you don't have the fastest computer on the block. I have an Athlon XP 1700+ with 512 RAM and an 8500DV (the slower clocked one) and it still runs acceptable at 1600x1200 with everything turned on and the distance bar about halfway. I'll also agree that it runs a hell of a lot better than Dungeon Siege for me. IMO, that is a game that was coded poorly as people with Ti4600s and Athlon XP2100s are getting bad frame rates with it. Oh and pornflake, when you run your tests and try and figure out what drivers work best for Morrowind let us know please! Thanks. |

For the sound card problem I am thinking to buy a terratec 5+1 or an Audigy, anyway Morrowind is the only game that sometimes has this audio problem. Yes you are right I don't have the most powerful PC but my PC is much better than the raccomanded on the box and it doesn't run well......

Those who says that this game is not bad programmed probably didn't play it for more than a few hours... The game is incredibly SLOW on all kinds of hardware, and it has a lot of bugs ala daggerfall. Maybe it's the best rpg ever, but the engine sux.
I've tested it on a kyro2, on a geforce 4, and on a radeon 8500LE with celeron and p4, and the framerate is always the same, ~15 fps outdoor. Maybe with gef4 and p4 i got more visual distance, but ehy i'm using 450€ graphic card. Also, after 2 hours of continuos play, memory leaks make the frame rate drop to 10-12, and you have to restart the game. Even programmers admitted that framerate is too low, and that a patch will be in future available. Simply read the forums in the official site. You can't say things like "an rpg requires less fps than a shooter" or "defrag your drive"... i don't know what an rpg require, but I REQUIRE,from my €450 and €200 graphic cards, a decent frame rate. And i have "decent" frame rates with ALL games except from morrowind, and so 95% of the other people playing with morrowind. I also regularly defrag my drive, and be sure that a defragmented drive do not affect frame rate but only loading times and inter-loading times... which surely may be present DURING gameplay, but you easily notice them. In fact, morrowind runs at 10-15fps even if you simply watch left/right or move the mouse around the screen, things that surely don't are affected by your drive access perfomance. Then... try this funny thing: leave the visual distance at a fixed value, then use whatever resolution or heavy effects you graphic card offers [like AA or anisotropic]... the framerate remains almost equal, maybe 1-2 casual fps drop. This doesn't sounds like a "perfect" graphic engine... the bottleneck is not in the graphic card or in the processor, but in the engine itself. |

I have been playing Morrowind for 2 weeks and have tried all the tricks and they helped a little; however since downloading DX9 even Balmora is smooth and without DX9 Balmora was very choppy.
