The drivers work wonders on my x700 PRO. About 8% gain in FPS for HL2 over 5.1!

Big Grin

Ok here goes

cat 5.1
3dmark 03 8700
3dmark 05 4332
3dmark 01 18060
aquamark 3 54fps

cat 5.2
3dmark 03 8840
3dmark 05 4437
3dmark 01 18142
aquamark 3 54fps

so there it is some improvment huh

but still in the beginning of aquamrk test before the ship goes over the top it is very jerky
never had that with my 980PRO adn 3dmark 2001se i got more on 9800PRO than X800 PCI-E i wonder if i dare go and change any values in bios for the PCI-E port

but the cat 5.2´s seem to have some inprovment but not in FC why i get the same results i dpn´t know

well way to go ATI keep it up

First off, it's nice that ATI is continuing support for Win9x OS.

The problem with 5.2 under Win9x though is, that it doesn't seem to have the DVI HDTV info read, like the WinXP version. Unlike the WinXP version, 1280x720 for example is not available by default.

It would be nice to have this feature for Win9x.

These drivers only change the numbers for me (Oficial 4.12 / 5.1 / 5.2 / Omega 5.1) same scores in 3dmark 2003/2005 and FPS in games are the same the only one that increase something is Omega 4.12

In the past twelve months I have usually ended up voting either a 6 ot 7 due to lackluster OpenGL performance, D3D is always tight though. With the 5.2's I have bumped it up to a 9, as I have noticed a considerable improvement in OpenGL such as RtCW and WolfET, which has suffered stuttering issues for me since the 3.9's. Nice work. Even got quite a boost in the GL Excess benchmark.

They improved my HL2 - it kept the FPS from having a few sections where it would drop down a bit, and for soem reason was getting loads of headshots on 5.2 in CS:S! lol

It feels a lot smoother now

~Good Job ATI

I voted a "1" for one reason and one reason only. Ever since the 4.10 drivers were introduced, AGP Write has been forced off in Smartgart. For me, this greatly affects performance in some cases, and I've been stuck using the 4.9's seeing as that's the last driver set that works for me. Zardon had mentioned to me that he had talked to Catalyst Maker about this right before Christmas seeing as he had some other people mention the same thing to him. I'm hoping it's fixed in the next release.

AGP write??
You mean Fastwrite maybe? Is Fastwrites set to enable in Bios ??
(You need to press CTRL + F1 in Giabyte bios to access the advance controls

I'll give these *and for the first-time* a 10 from me, best to date these ones

Hi Hawk,

No I mean AGP Write. When I type in Smartgart at the run console I get the advanced Smartgart settings. It says AGP Write - Off. Unfortuantely I can't do a CTRL + F1 in the bios because the bios doesn't support it believe it or not. This board doesn't have any advanced controls. What you see is what you get.

I gave them a 4 I think because I still see no improvements over on 9600xt card I have. I score 11,795 on them I think. Omegas 5.1a drivers are much faster for me anyway. please improve fps in 9600 and up brand thanks.

Rated 6.

Performance in CS Source is down. Performance in 3DMark03 has been going down since 4.12.

OK boost in 3DMark05 in 5.1 and 5.2. But that only is not worth it.

4.12 still the best.

Large drop in performance for me and World of Warcraft. Very unusual, minimized game and re-started runtime. Seemed to make it ok but still very jerky compared to 5.1's which i thought ran very nice.

Okay, aside from Performance, how is stability with the 5.2s?

Several people had severe issues with the 5.1s. I was one of them, my screen would go black and stay that way until I forced a reboot. I would also get random screen corruption.

I am currently using 4.12 from Omega. I don't have any corruption issues with them.

Thanks

I had severe issues with 5.1 - whereas no problems with any other previous driver from 4.x series. On a fresh install - could not get 5.1 to pass 3dmarok01se - 4.12 worked ok. Stuttering in 3dmark03 etc. With these, fully stable again. Working very good in Far Cry, and Half Life 2. So I can recommend you these ... Not playing CS:S. But will rate them a 9. After 5.1, for me, anything that works is good.

Nar, changed my mind, I tested 5.2 and 4.12 and the 4.12 look better and I gain 50 points on 3d mark. So back to the good old 4.12 for me.

Gave'em a 9. Very nice drivers no issues so far and a nice OGL performance bump in Planeshift.

I gave them an 8. CCC on 5.2 failed to start after installing over 5.1, but a trip down the old "do the full uninstall, reboot into safe mode, driverclean, reboot, reinstall" path and 5.2 has been working well since.

The drivers seem to be very smooth and IQ is good in general. However, I found out that there is a catastrophic drop in frame rate when playing Rome: Total War when your archers fire flaming arrows. I normally have 2xAA/8x forced aniso, options set to high (but not highest), get 30-40 fps normally, but see a drop down to ~1-2 when flaming arrows are fired.

Performance is up substantially in FarCry for me, making me quite a happy customer FarCry was one of the games the x700 trailed the 6600GT in throughout reviews, but appears to no longer be an issue. Im pretty excited about the performance improvements ATi continues to deliver in their drivers.

I am extremely disappointed with these drivers. With CAT 5.1 I did not crash nearly as much in EverQuest 2 as I am now. It seems I can't go more than an hour without crashing out of the game now... Time to go back to 5.1 I suppose.

This is a solid release. I'm seeing an improvement in IQ and performance with these across the board as well.

Great work ATI.
