Chronicles of Riddick graphic corruptions
Hi guys, got a problem when playing Chronicles of Riddick, all the 'dynamic' objects (like the actor models) are being torn apart. It looks like this :
![]() Anyone that can help me out as to what is causing this corruption? Thx in advance I'm running a P4 2.4Ghz, 512mb RAM, 9800 Pro 128mb with official 5.2 Drivers. |

Looks like the effects you get when the card is overheating
As the game uses lots of pixel shaders and stuff it tends to make the chip get hotter as it has to work more

As a test try underclocking by 50mhz on the ram and same on the core. if this resolves the issue its overheating as sprye says.

so thats what that is.... i wonderd why that was happening for a bit.
i used to have that happen to me when doom3 first came out and i was running it on ultra settings. some where along the way a driver came out and i never saw those effects again. |

thats just messed up, somethings seriously wrong a
and this is the 1st i've herd of any such issue with the the game I'd Reinstall direct X 9C, Re install your chipset drivers, re install your video drivers re install the gameif push come to shove try formating and re installing windows...does this happen only in that one game? You could try runing with your case side off see if that has any effect... but over heating seems to be the more likely couse of your problem. Check the fan on your video card for proper operation...

hate to bring up a dead subject, but im sort of haveing the same problem.
i actually just found out tonight that there was a demo for butchers bay so i gave that a try tonight. within literaly 5 seconds i started artifacting, and it happend through the entire demo. i was running at 1024x768@90hz, 4xaa? 16xAF, everything maxed, shader set to auto - 2.0, everything else was maxed. ![]() ![]() ![]() i checked my video temps with the overdrive tab in the CP, it said i was at 58C *edit, just checked again when i was ingame and it was in the high 60s. i saw some place on here that these x800's could do 100c before any problems occured* cpu temps maxed at 45C and ambient is 28C. i just threw in doom3 ROE to see if i could get that to artifact (havnt played it till now with the 5.5's) and it ran flawlessly. actually it ran really damn well... this is the first time ive ever seen artifacting in any game, in a long long time. (saw a little something like this when D3 first came out. it just disapeard as fast as it came and ive never seen it since) so as of right now, everything may up to date for me. ive got the cat 5.5's, DX 9.0C, and i dont know if theres any new VIA drivers, i updated like 6 months ago. id really like to get the game some time, but if this is the way its gonna be, i dont think i will. any body know if this artifacting has been eliminated with a patch thats come out? specs X800 pro @ stock A64 3200+ @ stock (clawhammer) 2x512 Kingston Hyper-x DDR400 AC97 (onboard) *edit - i was just messing around with changeing the refresh rate ingame and it seemd to have a direct coralation between how much artifacting appeard. any one know anything about this? This is graphics memory issues from what it looks like on the screenshots. Core does not have anything to do with these shaped "tearing". Try clocking memory a little bit lower if you can, and see if they disappear. Make sure you have a good case air flow as well.

ive been messing around with riddick all day and just deleted it.
i tried all 3 shaders, all levels of AA/AF, resolution, texture quality, everything. nothing i tried made a diffrence, i still had that stuff poping up all over the place. |

Riddick is very shader heavy, does it appear in any other shader-heavy game, such as Half Life 2 or Doom 3? If you have those of course. If it only appears in those games, it may be that one of your pixel pipelines is in the better world... It's not a soft-modded 9800 pro, is it?

nope, doesnt happen in any other games. farcry, HL2, Doom3 and expansion, NFSU2, everything runs with out any form of artifacting at all. riddick is the only one thats giveing me problems. oh, and from time to time, the menu screen in riddick is artifacting too.
the card is a true blue X800pro, no mods done at all, and the cards only been in 1 system. it is a first run series (got it the week they went on sale) dont know if that would make any diffrence. *edit - i just ran about a half dozen games, and 3dmark 03. couldnt get any problem to show up in anything. seeing as it appears to be in this 1 game only, could it be software related? Well it could be just the problem with Riddick, though it would be strange in this case, as I would think something else could trigger the problem. Have you tried different driver versions?
Sorry, I really do not know what else it could be, other than maybe attempting to clean out Windows by reinstalling it (I know it's a long shot to try and fix a single broken game, but it would annoy the heck out of me)

meh whatever. it was only the demo to the game, and at this point in time i wont bother buying it.
i do need to format some time soon, but ive been saying that for the last 5 months... when ever i get around to it, or when the 5.6's come out, ill try riddick again. thanks for the help though. |
