Bug Fix for Omega Cat. 5.1 Drivers & Mobility x800 <-- Look here if you get an error

Ok... new to ATI so it took me awhile to figure out why my Mobility Radeon Laptop with an X800 chip (i.e. M28) would not work with the Omega drivers.

There is an error in the .inf files which identifies that M28 chip as Device ID 5d48 *instead* of the correct Device ID # of 5d4a.

Just change that parameter and they install just fine!

Hope this helps others doing a search here for this problem.

I'll stick it until OmegaDrive releases a new set. It will help people with x800 mobility.

When you run the installer for Omegas driver they create a folder inside the Program Files folder, and creates a Star Menu folder for easy access to them later. After it extracts just stop the installer, and look for a folder like this:

C:\Program Files\Radeon Omega Drivers\vxxxx Beta\2KXP_INF

Inside that last folder you will find a file called CX2K_RAD_OMEGA.inf. This is the one they are describing here.

Open it with notepad, and look for the follow section near the beginning:

;Extra support added for the following cards by Omegadrive:
"M28 (Omega 2.5.97)" = ati2mtag_M28, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5D48

That "M28" should be the last line of that section. Change 5D48 to 5D42, and save it.

After you do the changes you need just start the installation again from the Start Menu.

Your right.. me bad... it was A.

Lemme ask this though: you are trying to install the drivers on a laptop that has a Mobility X800, right? Also, are you able to install the default drivers that came with the laptop?

Yes, a laptop with X800. Your gonna love this... I tried to re-install the drivers it came with from the utility disc... they only had the drivers from the 6800 Go. I am calling those bastards tomorrow about that. I did a respawn and I fixed it all. lol, I just got this laptop Saturday. I did a 3DMark03 and got a 8508 with the drivers it came with. Again Tipstaff thanks for responding so fast.

Are you getting problems going to Standby or Hibernation mode??

If I go Standby and then try to bring it back... I get horrible screen corruption and have to reboot.

I'm about to do a complete XP reinstall but figure I'd check first....

i haven't had any issues with standby. I'll try hibernation when I get some time this weekend (hopefully).

I was getting serious corruption issues when unplugging the power adapter while the machine was running. It turned out it was some conflict with powerplay. Just deactivated it and now the issue is gone.

Sorry bout the long reply time...been away.

For some reason though, the original ID was not recognized by my X800.

Are there two versions out there??

Let's just say there are at least two. The other device id is for another M28 chip. Most chip types have several device ids.
