Did the removal>startup>shut down>installed card>startup and still won't load drivers? I guess I'm screwed? I guess I could reinstall the XP CD and see if that changes anything in the device manager.
Did the screen shot but what file format should I save as and how to post it here to see? ezd |

@ezd96 not really sure whats wrong, do you have another video card you can try switching with to see how it works?
@rambo406 since you didnt mention it did you check for atiprbxx.exe? and your running winxpsp2? could you also check start>run>type in services.msc>look for ati smartgart or something it should be automatic and not running |

After I cleaned and made sure the oem files were gone I figured I had nothing to lose with install XP again. So I reloaded XP yesterday and after that install I went to the device manager again to look what would be listed and found some ATI drivers along with the Intel drivers. So then I went right to the 9.6 driver file I downloaded right from ATI and they finnally installed with no problem.
I really do appreciate the time you have spent with the post to help get these drivers loaded. ezd |

So, the main problems: Card (Radeon 9500) is not recognized, Omegadriver not working Monitor not recognized and monitor driver not working or updateable (see below). I got Omega's driver to install and work once tonight, miraculously, although I have no idea how it worked, because I didn't do anything different from what I am doing every time I try it now. I then uninstalled it because I was getting some bad video problems with garbled text and icons. I figured I'd try reinstalling, but now that doesn't work at all. Now the bad part - I uninstalled my monitor driver (Dell 2007 FPW), thinking this might have gotten messed up some how, and I could reinstall it the same way I did last time I installed it. Wrong again. Now I have no monitor driver, and the properties button in the Monitor tab of display properties is greyed out, so I cannot manually reinstall or update the driver. Tried system restore (I made a restore point right before uninstalling the monitor driver) - wrong again. System restore says "system cannot be restored. Your computer's settings have not been changed" - does not provide explanation. That was the first time I ever tried using restore. I used omega's driver a year ago on this system with this vid card with no problems (although last time I didnt use the soft-mod, and this time I am trying to). I loved the driver, it rules. Suggestions for all of these matters would be much appreciated! Thanks! P.S. - I have read this entire thread already.... Also, I posted this elsewhere, but then realized that that thread is dead, so I'm trying this one too, Intel mobo 2 gig P4 1 gig RAM Radeon 9500 Windows XP Pro Extreme aversion to reformatting |

DISPLAY\DELA019\5&34B7C264&5&10000084&01&00
Thats the id for the monitor, under monitors... PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4144&SUBSYS_2057148C&REV_00\4&365 60896&0&0008 Thats for the Radeon 9500, under Display adaptors Also under display adaptors is appearing an unknown "video controller". The ID: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4164&SUBSYS_2056148C&REV_00\4&365 60896&0&0108 I am using the latest release of the Omegadriver for ATI, WIndows XP: rad_w2kxp_omega_38291.exe To update where I am at now, I figured out how to install the Omega vid driver..... First, install it, restart, then install it again by using either the new hardware wizard, or by running the setup.exe in the driver. After installing the omega, the monitor became recognized and the correct driver shows as working normally despite not having reinstalled it. Of course I have been folowing the procedure described in the readme for the driver cleaner for doing/redoing all of this. Most importantly, now, as before, I am having wierd garbled video paterns in game (Medieval 2), and to a much lesser degree, garbled text and icons on desktop. I have tried the soft mod swapper, but no video improvement (not sure if it is doing anything, since the original install where I selected those options did not work), and am unclear what setup of omega driver is actually installed and working (soft mod, 9700, 9800, or regular). Never had these video problems with the older version of omega driver... but dont recall older versions having the soft mod, so Id like to try to make this work... Doesnt look too promising though. As for the monitor driver inf, I have powerstrip, I will check it out - thx. Any suggestions? My system again, Win XP intel mobo P4 2 gig 1 gig RAM Radeon 9500 |

"Also under display adaptors is appearing an unknown "video controller". The ID: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4164"
thats the secondary display if you want to hook up two monitors or leave it disabled if you only use one you can use UnknownDevices to find out unknown devices looks like the inf has support for your card as for the "wierd garbled video paterns" a screen shot would be nice, but you can try using different driver versions. in the 2KXP_INF theres swpdrv\normal\ati2mtag.sys copy the sys file to 2KXP_INF to disable the softmod download the softmod here here |

I used the soft mod swapper again, this time selecting the regular omega driver (which I thought I had already tried, but must be mistaken) and the garbled video pattern disappeared, and all appears to work normally.
This has me wondering if the 9500 that I have is a pro, and that is causing the video problem, and it just isn't saying pro in device mnger, etc.... Regarding this: in the 2KXP_INF theres swpdrv\normal\ati2mtag.sys copy the sys file to 2KXP_INF to disable the softmod Doesn't the soft mod swapper included in the omega driver do the same thing (it is in the start menu with all the radeon driver stuff...). As for downloading the soft mod - isnt that the same as the soft mod which is already a selectable option for the omegadriver? Are you suggesting that I may get better results if I use that version? Also, there are a few available downloads there - 2 of which seem to be identified as the same thing even though one is 800 KB and the other 56.6 MB. Which do I choose? And should I follow the usual uninstall and clean procedure for this install attempt? If/when the vvideo garbling reappears, then I will provide screen Thank you very much for the help! i use a different shell for windows and i disabled the startmenu part of it so i cant say i've ever used the soft mod swapper, might as well do it that way if you want.
the file you want from the softmod page is Patched ati2mtag.sys (9500 -> 9700 and 9800SE -> 9800) (not the 64bit one) i believe omega uses the files from there also. i was looking in the softmodded sys and noticed the credits are from the person doing the softmods from that website. to install copy the modded sys to the 2KXP_INF folder then install the drivers how you normally do |

ok, I'm gonna give it a try. When/if I get the insane vid probs, screenshot will be forthcoming.
Regarding my question about whihc download - please excuse the ignorant question - I later noticed that the lower ones are for 64 bit... EDIT: Another question..... when you say install the drivers how you normally do.... Do you mean launch right from the rad_w2kxp_omega_38291.exe driver installer, even though it is already installed..? Or should I install from the .inf in the driver directory with new hardware wizard (if that's even possible when the device is already recognized as not new hardware) or do you mean use the soft mod swapper....? The image can be found below.
I copied the .sys to the directory you indicated, then went ahead and tried the "soft mod swapper" and selected "force 9700". After restart, the vid problems returned as before... Again, there is a significant video problem outside of game also, but nowhere near as extreme and it looks different - the icons and text are garbled in certain places. Am I using the correct install method? http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...HEMADDNESS.jpg |

see if these make any difference
http://www.georgebreese.com/net/software/#PCI if you do a clean install of windows and still get the problem then you might have some bad hardware (maybe cheap power supply or bad ram) do you have working parts you can swap with to test? |
