ATI's new driver download page
So what does everyone think of the new ATI driver download page on ati.com?

Should get better with some minor layout improvements, but on the whole I just didn't see any need to change out the old driver page. While they are obviously integrating everything into a knowledge database for a purpose, drivers itself could just as well exist outside that knowledgebase for quicker access.
If they keep the linkage structure one could simply bookmark the most needed page though, like for instance: http://support.ati.com/ics/support/K...p?folderID=301 |

It would be OK, except the tree doesn't work in Firefox 1.01: all the branches are open, and clicking on the minus sign doesn't close them.

Terrible...I was able to find the previous driver sets faster than the latest set.
plus It does not render properly in Gecko based browsers...the menu that is. W3C Validation Failed 26 errors. The old way was better.

Running firefox, it looks like it's a few generations too old.
The original interface was very easy to use, and I could open it even if running at 640x480 (Trying to get drivers) I noticed a SIGN-IN, mabye it can customize based on the products you own?

I dodn't have any trouble getting to it. I though it was faster than doing the other method. i am using firefox 1.0.1. A few tweaks, and it will be fine. (not that big a deal to me, I don't even use it that much.

Although, it does make it easier to access older versions of the catalyst drivers.

It's not even that though, its just they do such a great job of making it a pain to get the drivers at all (I.E. hard to find tabs and buttons)

You get a gold star if you can successfully report a driver bug using the new feedback form, as its impossible

Yeah, 5 clicks to get to where 1 got one before. 6 to actually get to the drivers. not intuitive at all for drivers. it is better for screen readers, tho. As for the KB it's high time it has been consolidated. A serious look at updating the articles needs to be done, and eliminating old/outdated advice. It's a little disconcerting to have to wade through 5 year old articles that keep saying "ATI Engineering has been advised of the issue and is investigating." The timeout stinks, too, not much TroubleShooting time there. It's good to see a MyATI type setup back, tho.

It is absolutely incredible that this passed quality control, that is the worst download page ive ever seen. terrible use of frames, poor design and a total mess of a layout.

heh...one word to describe it? atrocious. I mean, I'm fairly satisfied with alot of simple things (hell...I thought CATALYST 5.1 was dandy) but holy christmas...what the heck is that? looks like something my nephew chalked up in a grammar school HTML class.
I have to admit though, originally when I saw the "new page" I thought it was a problem with my IE or FireFox or that perhaps the site link to Drivers/Downloads was borked. It really does not make sense - the old site was sa little slow on the loading but what they replaced it with only looks good in lynx or some interface-less browser

OK we figured out that if you want to report a driver bug you have to register your card as the options arent there if you dont (I dont think they even tested it)
You are lucky if your card is even on the list to register as they arent all there (no club3D cards for example) The timeout thing is totally lame and needs to be removed too

I had a conversation with ATI about this over the weekend and explained the problems, comments id received, so they are aware of this. So we shall see if anything changes over the coming weeks/months.
