Direct X 9.0c, DEBUG, Differnt build? What do these all mean?

Im not currently at home so forgive me if this isnt enough information for getting my question awnserd.

I did a Dxdiag yesterday after haveing trouble with the unidan drivers "Got them working fine now, they are awsome. (Still waiting on omegas )" and i noticed some weird occurances. I did have the SDK for direct x 9.0c installed but I had removed it the day before and dont know if it had anything to do with this question that I have.

The question is, how do you know if you have the most current version of direct x 9.0c and which is better, the DEBUG or the RETAIL. The debug is much bigger than the retail but it also states that the debug will operate slower than the retail. How do you know which of these two are running? Both are located inside of the dxdiag.

Also I noticed that the sdk installed a more up to date version of the Direct X 9.0c , it had a labeling like 0000.027 or something like that "not exact numbers, cant remember without being at home".

I waste alot of time during the day trying to learn things that I have no use for, luckaly this is something that I think alot of other people might not know ither and might be able to benifit from this information. If some of our pcs are running this DEBUG version, that could be a cuase for lower performance.

u don't need SDK version if ur not a programer workin with d3d, al u need to install is DX9.0c retail version. if u have problems with dx9 i suggest to uninstall it first with this util http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2935.html and then install dx9.0c retail.

Debug builds are special testing builds to trace specific hardware, software and driver problems/errors. End users do not require debug builds.
