Big Grin Retail Radeon 9700 Pro BIOS upgrades...

OK, now that RadEdit is out along with the new version of ATIFLASH, let's see the most current BIOS for the Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB retail cards.

The ultilities can be found here:
http://www.radeon2.ru/radedit_eng.html#n3

My BIOS version is 8.003, dated 2002/08/02

I already downloaded my card's BIOS (NTSC) into a file, it can be downloaded here:
http://www.omegacorner.com/files/9700_8003n.zip
This is a default RETAIL BIOS, no modifications have been made.

Please note that there two files in the ZIP archive, one is the BIOS and the other is a text file with the same name, it includes the full description of the BIOS included (the info can be found in the device manager, accesing the properties of the card), please try to use the SAME format for you BIOS since this will make things easier for everyone. Include the BIOS plus the TEXT file for reference .

If you have a newer version of the BIOS please download it from your card and post it here.

To download the BIOS to a file use this command in PURE DOS:

atiflash -s 0 97-8003N.bin

In this case I used for the filename:
97 = indicating a 9700
8003 = for the version number
N = for NTSC

To flash a modified BIOS to your card use this command is PURE DOS again (please do it ONLY if you know what you are doing, don't tell me I didn't warned you) :

atiflash -p 0 97-8003N.bin

I already have mine modified at 330/330 and is running perfectly stable (stock card cooling).

Good Luck!

Sad

Well, two things could be happenning here:

1- NOBODY has a newer BIOS

or

2- NOBODY except me has a 9700 retail card

Could anyone respond to this?

My 9700 Pro's (I've got 2, a 11 and 13) are so new, so expensive, working so good, that I don't want to mess around where any risk is involved. Until I see a reason, I won't do it. Sorry.

11 is BBA 13 (if you mean 113 and 133) is PBA.

EEK!

I just want an updated BIOS, that's all, I'm not forcing anyone to alter their BIOSes, but I posted the command just in case you want to do it.

Citation4444, Dumping the BIOS into a file doesn't alter the card's BIOS, only if you upload a new BIOS to the card, so just use the first command to dump the BIOS into a file, ZIP the file and upload it somewhere (it's just around 50k), that's it, the card is not altered in ANY way. Just make sure is a newer date then the one I have.

joeyd, The BIOS info can be found in the Device Manager, by accessing the properties of the card, in the DETAILS tab, there you will see the date and version number, no need to go to DOS, you only have to go to DOS to DUMP the BIOS if it is newer than the one I posted here.

follestad, I don't know, but if the Hercules design is EXACTLY the same as the ATI one, then it should work, the only way to find out is to alter the BIOS and cross your fingers.

Sorry Zardon I've got the same bios as you. Hopefully someone will have a revision 1.3 card and post they're bios. That one's got the fixes for 8x agp mobo's. I'd really like to take a shot at that one in my GA-7VAX

What I meant to say is I've got two 9700's, one a so-called revision 1.1 (ending numbers 11) and a revision 1.3 (ending numbers 13). As far as I can tell, they perform identically.

I though that you are talking about BIOS numbers, not revisions.
Because in BIOS - if it says 113 card is BBA, if it says 133 card is PBA.

Data1232 is on a distinguished road

Sorry, i know this is more tuned to the radeon 9700, but have any of you guys seen where i can download a retail 8500 bios? this is with 64mb, but the link that i got it from is now dead, and the backup version has been swallowed by my blackhole near my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I only changed, beacuse of the Epox 8KHA+ probs, that the 8500 had, and i got a different mobo, so i want to change it back. Thanks a lot.

Ok guys, the author of the RadEdit utility just replied, and I received an updated RadEdit that works with paladin06's BIOS.
The ultity doesn't have the new look as the BETA released recently and so far he only fixed the code to read and save paladin's BIOS only, when I try to open my BIOS file with this version it says "checksums bad", but it opens it anyway.

It's a little strange the info I found in the 8.004 bios, for example, my BIOS says (8.003, ATI Retail):
BIOS Title: R300 Samsung DDR BIOS P/N 113-94206-101
BIOS Date: 2002/08/02 13:58
Vendor ID: ATI Technologies [0x1002]
Also my BIOS is for NTSC.

His BIOS info (8.004, ???):
BIOS Title: 133-PC0000-007
BIOS Date: 2002/10/09 20:39
Vendor ID: ? Super Grace / PC Partner [0x174B]
His BIOS is for PAL.

Why the strange BIOS title???
Also, Super Grace / PC Partner???

I have made a modification to his BIOS, changed the Vendor ID to ATI and changed it to NTSC.

This is the new BIOS info:
BIOS Title: 133-PC0000-007
BIOS Date: 2002/10/09 20:39
Vendor ID: ATI Technologies [0x1002]
TV standard: NTSC
(Speeds are the same as the original 325/310)

I already have zipped it and is ready for upload, but since I'm moving servers during these days I need somewhere to upload the modified BIOS and also the modified RadEdit to be able to change the BIOS settings.

Anyone volunteers? (32.6KB BIOS and 46.8 for radedit)

BTW, the updated version of Radedit is NOT an update for the BETA one that was released a few days ago, it uses the old core and supports the new BIOS only as it seems, don't overwrite the BETA, use this one separately until the BETA one is updated.

I'll be flashing my card in a few minutes with the modified BIOS (OC to 330/330 of course ), wish me luck!
I am not going to register @Rage3D, so I am posting it here.

113 - BBA
133 - PBA
Sapphire ALWAYS removes all except P/N, ATI ALWAYS has Rxxx or Radeon xxxx and then P/N. Do you remember 8500 situation?
With 7.008 from Sapphire?
Also, you will need to do some aditional mods in Hex Editor to
BIOS to make it look like BBA.

BTW, totally off-topic, but I finally found retaill BBA 7.008 BIOS that IS NOT from Sapphiretech.

Someone posted an actual ATI 8.004 BIOS file over in that Rage3D thread. It didn't need the vendor and part # modified like the previous one.

Bios Version: 8.004
Bios Part #: 113-94206-102
Bios Title: R300 Samsung DDR BIOS P/N 113-94206-102
Bios Date: 2002/10/17 13:33

Big Grin Good news!!!

I have made a BIOS page in my website that includes ALL radeon bios releases I have found, that is for 8500 and 9700 cards, all are correclty classified with VERSION, NAME and DATE.

Go get them at www.omegacorner.com , the page is in the ATI Radeon area.

Enjoy!!!

This thread is officially closed, now report new bioses directly to my mail and I'll post them at my website.
