Catalyst (ATi Official and zer0point) installation stuck

My installation halts when I try to install those two...omegas work well. Looking in the task manager, IKernel.exe is doint a bunch of processing.

The drivers do get installed, but like 15-20 mins....it remains stuck on a screen for a while with that exe crunching shit.

Any help ?

Did you properly deinstall the drivers with drivercleaner?

This has happened to me with the official 5.4 set a few times on fresh installs. A reboot has fixed it in both instances.

Point of post? A confirmation, and a clean (no previous drivers installed) one at that.

BTW, I understand why the bug might bother you but do you really need to insult the drivers while reporting it / asking for help?

Gnerma, I don't think he was insulting anyone, just pointing out a issue/bug, which we appreciate, since we can't fix it if we don't know of it.

But yes, are you uninstalling drivers, running DC Pro, and rebooting when necessary?

yeah that happened after I ran the driver cleaner pro.
I am guessing its an installsheild bug, not a driver one. But cannot say for sure.
The first time it appeared was when I was installing WDM ATi official drivers. After I saw that long delay, I just manually installed the WDM via the infs and no prob. Then insalled omega, that also went through fine. Not sure if omega uses installsheild. I think he uses setup factory or something.

A google search didnt help me.
Any ideas ? I will try reinstalling install sheild.

Also a point to note, after installing the zer0point drivers, I cannot see the ATi cp in advanced display properties. All services are running, but no CP.

lol.

anyway, sometimes when u are installing u need to alt+tab to the 'hardware installation' manager that pops up...

u can try that if it halts suddenly coz that's what i usually do.
i'll see the manager waiting for me to confirm the video card drivers that i am installing before it proceeds.

thank you for that, I didnt know...

yeah, I tried all installsheild fixes, but no luck.

Well in anycase the drivers are all installed, and I will be reformating my system over the summer. So it will get fixed ultimately.

Try to install while not connected to the internet, unplug your nic, it's looking online for something, trying to get rid of that in the next release. At least thats what caused it on my end.

No no, wait, I had the same problem, here is the problem:

IKernel is 100% (it's trying to do something but it can't)
Installation is frozen (because IKernel has to finish before installation continues)

Your antivirus is trying to stop a process of changing a system file, and has the file "on hold" (a graphics driver file). IKernel is waiting for the system file to be changed (and is at 100%), and the installation is waiting for IKernel to finish. This will never happen if the antivirus keeps the new files as hostages.

Restart (or make sure IKernel is not running or there are no frozen applications on the background).
Disable your antivirus and then run the Catalyst installation.

I had this problem for 3-4 months and I discovered that it was my antivirus problem. Disabling the antivirus temporarily fixes the problem. A clean installation completely fixed the problem and I don't have to disable the antivirus now, but if you can't format, disabling the AV before installing new drivers, does the job.
