The funny thing is so many wanted that ability and it has virtually no affect on the loading time. It's a placebo effect I guess. That why I said long ago, such an option would be fruitless, except for those who simply don't want to see the loading screen. The loading time isn't from the loading screen it's from the application it self. The loading screen just gives you something nice to look at while you wait for that moment. CCC loading speed and its responsiveness has been improved over previous versions.

Have you heard anything about a fix for this yet? I've tried everything, but still hard crashes with this game and the 5.5s. So far I am as far as submitting a problem file (system info.) to ATI.

I've been a 4.12 fan ever since they came out, but I think it's time for a change (the given results are in the form 4.12 5.5 difference):

DirectX performance:

CS:Source Stress Test: 120.x fps 116.x fps -3.3%
(BTW, it has nothing to do with the updates, I don't have them, I have a 56k modem instead)
3DMark03: 6152 6130 -0.4%
3DMark05: 2474 2502 +1.3%

OpenGL performance:
GL Excess: 12910 12944 +0.3%
The Chronicles of Riddick Demo: all three prerecorded runs were identical
BUT, I played it with FRAPS on and i noticed a place where my fps dropped to 18 with 4.12 (I tried it several times, always the same). With 5.5, my framerate at that exactly the same spot (and same game settings) was 23-24, +30%!!

My specs:
Radeon 9800Pro 128MB
AMD Athlon64 3000+
MSI K8T-Neo (VIA K8T800)
512MB DDR400 3-3-3-8
all at stock

Things don't happen that way it takes time. It doesn't help that it happens to some people but not others either. It likely going to be harder for them to isolate. It comes down to them being able to duplicate and if possable resolve it. It could even be something that needs fixed on the game makers end or something else. Only time will tell .... It's important tha everyone have the issue report it and details of thier system configeration.

But it helps somewhat that I was able to duplicate it ....

Neon,

Could not send you a PM. Your box is full.

CP settings always on Quality when I play. Tried your suggestions to no avail. System crashes still and crashes hard. You could hear the HDD arm slam down on the disk.

Have you tried the 5.4s? Works perfect with my and your settings. I have found no similarities with those who have no crashing versus you and I and others who crash. I hope ATI can fix.

Thanks for the help.
Poppi.

It's not a bang, it's more like a click. I described it as a slam because it only does it with Trackmania Sunrise. Not a hardware problem as everything else runs flawless, even Trackmania Sunrise with the 5.4s. Please support your definitive conclusions next time.

even clicking is not a "good" noise - usually means the HD internally resets.
I can't do definitive conclusions based on some lines of text but what u can do is check the s.m.a.r.t status of the Hd for hard errors. I doubt that's a driver related issue

Why would it not be a driver issue when the 5.4s work fine and all the trouble starts when the 5.5s are installed? This being after multiple installs/uninstalls with the same results apparent.

Coz device resets (usually) are hardware triggered and not by software/video driver. Maybe 5.5 puts more/too much load on your hd/dma bus causing the "I give up" noise. Again, this is not a definitive statement.

I have a problem with the Catalyst 5.5 driver and a Radeon 8500 with Win XP (SP2).
In Comanche 4 the graphics are messed up. For instance, on one game map there are islands that are supposed to be green, but I see some of the smaller islands as black.

Even one of the huge islands is partly black and green. Never had this before, so I'm going to uninstall and install 5.4. I wanted to report this, though.

Poppi.
Thought I was on to something here. Tried to open a downloaded movie, for an upcoming game (Hellgate: London), with a trial version of DivX Pro. Computer crashed just like it did in Trackmania Sunrise. This was with the 5.4s.

Uninstalled DixX and reinstalled 5.5s. Unfortunatly, Trackmania Sunrise still crashed when going to the main menu, quiting race etc. Reinstalled 5.4s again and all OK with game.

Thanks for the reply Spyre:

It turned out that that's the way the islands just look. It's a new map on R-A-B's server. When I 1st saw the black islands I asked if it's suppose to be that way and VenturaFWD told me he saw all the islands as green. I went back in yesterday and another player said he saw black islands too. So, I'm concluding it's the map that's like that.

BTW, do you play C4 a lot? I am HotShotFWP, give me a holler if you see me around.

With a x800xt PE and 5.5 performance in HL2/CS:S has increased slightly but more importantly, the IQ has gone way up!!! Thanks ATI and looking forward to more releases as such.

I can safely say this is a 5.5 driver issue. Any help?
Hi, sorry for the late reply but I can confirm your problem as I'm having exactly the same problem when playing Trackmania Sunrise demo. I have a brand new WinXP SP2 installation + updates/drivers. With 5.5 drivers I can play the game for a few minutes but after that it always BSODs for me at some point. Also for some reason the bluescreen itself is completely blank, no text at all, just blue screen which is a bit odd.

Going back to the 5.4 driver solves my problems too, no crashes, bsods etc. the game works perfectly even after long session.

Re-install 5.5 drivers the game will BSOD after a few minutes.

Trackmania is the only game I've had any problems at all for everything else 5.5 drivers seem to be working just fine. Anyhow, I went back to 5.4 just to be sure.

Quick machine specs:
Athlon XP 3200+
Abit NF7-S v2.0
1GB DDR
Gigabyte Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
Audigy 2
WinXP Pro SP2 (slipstreamed) English version.

HooDee, thanks for the response. Maybe if you get a chance, can you submit a ticket to ATI? It's interesting, you get a BSOD and I get a restart. ATI's latest response to me with my ticket was to revert back to the 5.4s until the issue is addressed .
