cool beans ill have to give these a wing, i had issues with 5.4 of all makes having trees and such @ a distance lookin horrible, in both guild wars and COD UO, maybe thisll clear it up, the 5.4 ran smoother than everyones favorite Omega 4.12, but at an image quality cost, @ least on my system, although if yer seein an increase in speed from the 5.4 which didnt have IQ i liked i doubt they can up the IQ and performance with no expense.

dood is yer sig right?? pc2100?? u wanna see a mad performance boost, pik up a gig of corsair value select PC3200 DDR400 CAS 2.5 fot like 90 buks, get yer FSB up to 200, youll prolly hit 15000 no prob

Every time I see one of these "thanks for increasing my 3dmark score" threads.....it makes me want to hurl.

Like it's the most important thing ever.

When I think of the multitude of people working on these drivers, and the effort that the community puts forward to make them better, and the discussion boards that have been set up for us to give feedback on, and the communications that go on behind the scenes between our IHV of choice, and the game/software developers that code around them....I am overwhelmed by the big picture....and am stricken by a true sense of comradery, that keeps me coming back here, day after day.

I am but a small voice in this sea that we call a community.....but I am a loud voice.....as are we all.....

Enjoy your 3dmarks

Enjoy them like they are all that matter.....

well, the number of hours _enjoyment_ i have got out of overclocking, flashing my graphics bios, trying all manner of tweak tools and modded drivers, adding extra cooling, and the odd upgrade etc etc to increase my 3dmark scores probably beats the number of hours I have played games. now, dont get me wrong, in the last couple of years ive played both nolfs, both max paynes, farcry, half life, ut2003, cod, moh, freelancer, deus ex 1 and 2, nfsu 1 and 2, hitman 2, contract jack, and the list goes on, but I enjoy benchmarking, I have quite a list of them which I run to see how my latest tweaks are doing, and so I like hearing of others 3dmark triumphs and to those guys at ati: everytime you boost my 3dmark I feel even happier with my card and when I finally upgrade (since this has been one hell of a card for £140, 3 years ago) it will certainly be ati

Some people love their 3DMarks, you know that. Is it the most important thing? Hell no. But people do get enjoyment from having a better score in 3DMark with every release. As for me, I look at these threads the same as I would a "OMG, HL2 scores went up 4 frames with this release!!!" thread.

A 3Dmark increase? - does that mean the drivers are better optimized, or just better optimized for 3Dmark ?

I must admit, I prefer the "numbers" of 3Dmark, but it is totally discredited.

The problem is, it is virtualy impossible to make a benchmark that is both 100% repeatable and 100% cheat-proof, and if a benchmark is not 100% repeatable, then most driver version improvements will be within the margin of test variance.

I had some major issues with the official 5.4's like corruption and severe drop of fps every half hour or so (made me go back to Omega 4.12's)
I guess I will give these a try.

However, it amazes me that graphic drivers are so unstable. I guess I can't comprehend it due to my complete lack of knowledge on the subject but there are SO many issues. And everyone has a different setup that could cause any number of unique problems. It's actually quite sad they can't create hardware and software that works without fault and as expected. (Not just ATI, all corporations)

i do read a lot of problems that people have, and also the issues outstanding on the release notes of drivers, but i can honestly say the only times i have had problems is when overclocking way out of specs which is cured by backing down a bit, and others by having out of date drivers to with an update has cured things (eg the psyconauts demo had no sound as i had slightly out of date creative drivers, installed the new ones and all was well)

you rarely hear people say how well and issue free their pc is because who can be bothered to say that, you only hear when people have problems

That is a valid point...
Just trying out the new drivers, I had the Omega 4.12's installed. Need for speed underground 2 shows a major improvement (OpenGL game?) and Americas Army actually show a small drop in performance and some corrupted textures... (D3D game?)
Guess I need 4.12's with the 5.5 OpenGL files.

well 3dmarks or no 3dmarks

these drivers kick ass

no ordinary cat drivers have ever given me 60FPS Ultra settinmgs every option exept shadows vsync antialiasing on adn 2xaa 4af max quality/balanced

and besides i really turned off alot of processes not cruial obvioulsy as my comp still ran and i could do testing

so here goes never reached above 55FPS in AQUAMARK 3 yesterday night
i did 55.12FPS and that is no internet no FW no antivirus and lots of processes killed

so i am pretty pleased with the new cat 5.5 go ATI keep up the good work

......seriously this far ATI has made me a happy game freak thank you so much

see ya
