Catalyst sets SystemPages=183000 ??

Does anyone know why the Catalyst setup always sets SystemPages to 180000 in the Memory Management section of the registry? Just curious.

Probably a workaround to avoid system crashes when users apply the largefilecache setting. At least a while ago that was a big issue.

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Session Manager\Memory Management\SystemPages"

Thats a value a I saw a whole bunch talking about the "large system cache" issue
when i searched. I vagely rember the issue. From like 2 years ago...

Could verry well be a work around I honestly don't know for sure.

Right, that's why I ask the question. As noted in the MS documentation:

Do not change the value of this entry. Changing it prevents the system from calculating an optimal value for your system and adjusting the value when your system changes.
but this is exactly what the Catalyst setup does -- changes it to a hardcoded value rather than let XP figure it out dynamically...

Also, forgot to mention: I've been setting this value back to 0 since Catalyst 4.x and haven't found any ill effects. It's also interesting that the Catalyst setup uses the same 183000h value regardless of how much RAM is in my system or on the video card (have several different configs since 4.x).

Basically, this value reflects your total system ram including pagefile.
It's set to around 1.5 gig in my case having 1gig ram installed.
