arrow Radeon 7500 vs GeForce 5200 FX

I am currently running a Radeon 7500 and I'm starting to run into occassional problems with the newer games.

I found where I can get a GeForce 5200FX pretty cheap at a local store.

Is the GeForce 5200FX much of an improvement or am I wasting my money?

It's an improvement, but you should really aim for higher, depending on what games you are trying to play and how much you are willing to spend before taxes.

If you wish, I'm sure a lot of people will be glad to help you look for a good card to match your criteria such as:

Currency?
Max budget before taxes?
Online or offline purchase?
Games you are trying to play.
Specifications for the rest of your PC.

PCI slots only? Hmm.. To be honest, you will see a difference, but it won't be anything to celebrate about. PCI bus is very limiting.

If I were you, I'd save my money and either look to buy a new PC.

no it can't be PCI-E if its a 7500. wouldn't a PCI GeForce 4 outperform a FX5200? they are incredibly weak cards from what I've read, I wasn't even aware that they were available in PCI form.

I'm pretty sure you can get a radeon 9200 for pci, and that is better than a 5200fx, other than that I'm afraid you don't really have any other choice.

I'd save for a new pc as well, but if you want to stay pci, nvid has a 5700 available; it will be a lot more expensive though.

FX5200 has an advantage as DirectX 9.0 support.New games provide better graphics with PS 2.0 and VS 2.0 . I would advice you Ati 9200 if it can support DirectX 9.0,but unfortunately it's a directx 8.1 card.In the other hand FX5200 is not powerful enough for today's games.....ATI 9600 is a better choice with a little higher price

This is the best PCI card I could find, it's not great but you should be able to play most of todays games with it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814139166

You really need a

9600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102305
5700 (NON LE) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133136

or "better". I wouldn't get anything less..... But looks like 5700le is your only choice
since your limited to PCI

Neon he can't, it HAS to be PCI format. He is upgrading to a brand new computer for Xmas and needs something to tide him over.
