Newbie here and a Q for my new SONY S360 MR9700 card

Hello all,

I've a Sony Vaio S360P. 1.7GHz, 512 ram, w/ 64mb Mobility Radeon 9700 card. I want to buy a 2005fpw wide-aspect LCD from DELL. However, the natural resolution of 1680x1050 is not available as one of my monitor resolution settings (under XP). Dell's website has clearly stated that the MR9700 chip would support this resolution so I'm thinking it's due to the driver from SONY not set to support 1680x1050.

Is there anything I do can about it? Should I just download a MR9700 driver from DELL's website for one of their notebook computer and install or one of this Omega or DH driver will do the trick for me?

I really want a 20" wide lcd but it seems like my current driver only support the resolution of a 23-24" one, which is WAY out of my budget.

Please help!

ChoGG,
Thanks so much. Can I ask you two more things then?

1) Do you have working experience that refreshfix, refreshforce on a notebook? Or are they only for Desktops? The reason I ask is that ATI just informed me that the Catalyst can't be used on notebook computers.

2) Will these aftermarket utility programs slow down or affect the performance of the driver? or video chip?

Thank you!!!

1. you can use catalyst on mobility cards. its just that ati doesnt provide driver support for mobility cards, whoever made the laptop does.
use mobility modder for official catalysts. omegas and dh zeropoint drivers both have support for mobility cards (as well as most other driversets, check the description or release notes to find out).
2. far as i know powerstrip doesnt, but i only use powerstrip to change my PCI latency (with the /exit option so it applys then exits).
you only need to run refreshfix to edit your video card settings then you dont need to run it again till you reinstall your video drivers.
so no, not that i know of.
glad to help out
