9600pro - problems with 3D acceleration
I have a strange problem with my Atlantis 9600 pro 128MB video card.
2D video appears to be fine, but it does some strange stuff with games that use 3D acceleration. Here are some screenshots: UT2004: http://computerslayer1.spymac.com/Shot00001.jpg Doom3: http://computerslayer1.spymac.com/shot00003.jpg DirectX 9.0c is installed and I've tried catalyst drivers 5.4, 5.5 and 4.8 (in that order with no improvement with each change). I also tried turning off fast write and knocked the AGP speed from 8x to 4x, but it still exhibits the same symptoms. Using the ATItool, if I try knocking down the clock speeds as far as 100Mhz below the default speed, the problem looks worse. I also tried installing the most recent Omega drivers 2.6.25a. It looks *much* better, but there are still problems. Also, just for kicks, I tried setting the max GPU and max RAM clocks with the ATItool. About every 3 seconds, it detects an artifact and kicks back the timer and starts over. During this process, I see green dots appear over the test image. Any ideas? I'm stumped. |

I took off the omega drivers and put the cat 5.5's back.
Here's what the artifact test looks like with ATItool: http://computerslayer1.spymac.com/ATItool.jpg Something tells me that it isn't supposed to look like that... |

I was thinking of replacing it with a 9800pro since they're so cheap now (I was looking at one on newegg for $126)
I'll also RMA the card and possibly either sell after it gets replaced or use it in another build. |
