for people with mobility 7500

umm..for some reason the forum is formatting the info for the inf file below to have _____ instead of spaces.....so i included my inf file http://www.hardwareheaven.com/attachme...ttachmentid=53 for reference....read on

hey:
dissonance helped me out and showed me how to get the ati drivers to install properly on mobility 7500 cards..the drivers have the support for mobility cards, but for some reason stupid ati doesn't build it in and so we are left out in the cold...just a couple things to change in the drivers will help you install...and it's worth it...the new 2.5 drivers are great....

i'll assume you have windows xp since this is the only way i know how to do it .... first off you have to get the installer to work....alright so when you extract the file you'll find install.ini in the /driver directory (not the install.ini in the base directory)...open that up in notepad and you'll see
[WINXP]
Label=R6
R6=DriverPath_R6..etc........0x4242

add to end of that after 0x4242... put a comma and then 0x4c57
so you'll have
Code:
R6=DriverPath_R6,0x4144,0x4E45,0x4E44,0x4967,0x4966,0x514c,0x5159,0x5157,0x496F,0x496E,0x5144,0x4164,0x4E65,0x4E64,0x4242,0x4c57
DriverPath_R6=\2KXP_INF,CX_06759.INF
ok save that file.....now for the driver to work....in the folder 2kxp_inf open up CX_06759 in notepad...ok now where you see
Code:
[ATI.Mfg]
"Radeon 7000 / Radeon VE" = ati2mtag_RV100, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5159
"Radeon 7200 / Radeon" = ati2mtag_default, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5144
"Radeon 7500" = ati2mtag_RV200, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5157
"Radeon 8500 / 8500LE" = ati2mtag_R200, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_514c     etc all the way up to....
"RADEON 9700/9500 SERIES SEC  " = ati2mtag_R300, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4164
put in right after that line with the quote
Code:
"Radeon Mobility 7500" = ati2mtag_M7, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C57
good...now just search through the entire file (just use the search function)...and replace all instances of RV200 with M7

ok just one last thing....
where you see
[ati2mtag_M7_SoftwareDeviceSettings]
and a few lines under it.....delete those lines and put in the following:
Code:
HKR,, DALRULE_NOTVANDLCDONCRTC,____________ %REG_DWORD%,___ 1

just make sure that it's all formatted correctly since this message may have it's own formatting..just make sure that HKR begins every line.....then save that file and you're all set...just uninstall your old drivers and restart and then run setup.exe from the base directory....i hope this is understandable....the drivers really are great...good luck

thanks for the very clear instructions. I got the drivers to install properly on my laptop with radeon 7500 mobility

however, did you try to run OGL games with the driver? mine exit to desktop citing a "OGL subsystem failure" This is before I even get into the game.

D3d seemed to work fine though.

I'm back to the plutonium8.1s for now.

Thanks anyway for your very helpful instructions!

Cheers,
Andrew

hmm..opengl was working fine for me...i tried it in war3 and working just as perfectly as d3d was...the only thing i can suggest is to either wait for cyborg's upcoming release or else try out the 2.5 release from ati which should supposedly be coming in a week or so...let me know if you find out anything more...
good luck

Is there a way to do this with the new Catalyst 2.5 driver?

yeah, it should work the same way through the ati/support folder rather than whereever you extracted the sapphire drivers....but i'd just go for the omega drivers....they should work slightly better than the new 2.5's considering he put so much time into them...and they should install right off the bat...no modifying for us...but i haven't tried them yet...about to right now...

thanks for the advice! i've tried the omega driver but it doesn't seem to work with OpenGL games... i guess i'll try catalyst 2.5 now, another uninstall and multiple reboots....

Help!

For Catalyst 2.5:

Thefirst part of the install.ini file looks a bit diferent:
Quote:
[WINXP]
Label=R6
R6=DriverPath_R6,0x4966:0x9A021509,0x4966:0x9A0015 09,0x496e,0x514C:0x0F2A1002,0x5159:0x00BA1002,0x51 59:0x003A1002,0x5159:0x000B1002,0x4966:0x200517AF, 0x4966:0x20021002,[color=red](many more..you get the idea)
[/color] ,0x4966:0x200617AF,0x4E44:0x00021002,0x5144:0x02AA 1002,0x5144:0x00291002,0x4966:0x40101458,0x4E64,0x 4E64:0x00031002
DriverPath_R6=\2KXP_INF,CX_06641.INF
what should i add and where?

In folder 2kxp_inf do i put the exact same lines you provided in the file CX_06641.inf like this?
Quote:
"RADEON 9000 PRO - Secondary" = ati2mtag_RV250, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_496E&SUBSYS_00031002
"RADEON 9700/9500 SERIES" = ati2mtag_R300, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E44&SUBSYS_00021002
"RADEON 9700/9500 SERIES Secondary" = ati2mtag_R300, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E64&SUBSYS_00031002
[color=red]"Radeon Mobility 7500" = ati2mtag_M7, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C57[/color]
"TYAN TACHYON G9000 PRO" = ati2mtag_RV250, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4966&SUBSYS_000210F1
"TYAN TACHYON G9000 PRO - Secondary" = ati2mtag_RV250, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_496E&SUBSYS_000310F1
"GIGABYTE MAYA RADEON 9000 PRO" = ati2mtag_RV250, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4966&SUBSYS_40101458

+all that other code under[ati2mtag_M7_SoftwareDeviceSettings]
i'd reeeealy apreciate it if you could look into this for me!
thanks for the help!!

hey,
it should work just as before....all the installer does is look for a reference to your video card...it gives you an error initially because it doesn't see your card there...not recognized...so just add in the 0x4c57 with a comma before it after the last one...in your case it appears that 0x4E64:0x00031002 was the last one so just put 0x4E64:0x00031002[COLOR=red],0x4c57[/COLOR]
as for the inf file treat it the same way...do as you did and then change all instances of RV200 to M7....for the softwaredevicesettings, i'm honestly not sure what other settings should be added for the new 2.5's...cyborg added some, but you can just replace what's there right now with what i told you to put in and you should be fine....i'm not sure why your opengl is giving you so many problems, but i wish you luck..

Thumbs Up!

Thnx a million times schwarz2 for your work,

At last someone with brains and a m7 card is helping us out.

I installed the Beta 2.5 drivers with your inf file and I must say it was an increddible increase in performance. No problems so far,
smartgard works, as a mather of fact everything seems to work.

Q: Should I install the official 2.5 driver (with or without your inf) or go for the omega drivers (with or without your inf) ??
I could test it, if i had the time. You might already have the answer so that would save me some time.

thnx already m8

hey,
this is a great that this is helping all of you out....i must give credit to dissonance though...he told me how to do this initially..

anyway...right now i have omega's drivers installed...i wouldn't say that there's a noticeable performance increase, but they got all the tabs in the options working for me and they have a couple extra utilities so i figure stay with them...i haven't myself tried out the 2.5 release yet, but i assume they're basically the same thing as the ones from sapphire..mostly same versions....if you're going to install the 2.5 releases then i wouldn't use my inf file...i'd just follow the instructions to modify them that i posted above since there are probably a few different commands in there....for omega's drivers you can just install those as he released them..they'll install without any modification...

if i were you i'd just go for the omega's....easy to install and he put some modifications in there that should help us out somewhat...good luck

Okay i installed the new catalyst 2.5 following your instructions, though i took the missing parts from the .inf file from my latest set of actual mobility drivers (6094) instead of the code you provided. I added these sections instead of overwriting the the radeon 7500 (RV250) sections, though i doubt if it makes any difference.
They installed and work flawlessly, though my NWN still crashes, exactly like with the Omega driver. Maybe i should try to re-install the game, though that would be a pain in the @ss. I get a better 3dmark2k1 score with catalyst than with Omega, though he claims his driver is for gaming and not benchmarks. Can someone explain to me why his driver wouldn't do so well in 3dmark2k1, the gaming benchmark?

Thanks a million schwarz2 for providing the information on how this is done! It's quite simple, so why the %#&! don't ATI do it!

hey,
i stopped using benchmark programs a little while ago cause i realized how unreliable they are...try running a benchmark...then restart your computer and try it again...a lot of times your score will be entirely different depending on the comp's workload at that time...you can turn all your quality settings to the most performance settings in your d3d tab and look how the scores change in 3dmark...so i'd just go by looks..not scores

ati decided that they should leave it up to the vendors to support their own installed cards since the vendors can "optimize" the drivers for that particular system....but pc companies don't know what they're doing when they try to create drivers..they don't specialize....it's stupid..

Where are these lines comming from?
From an older Mobility driver set? The last release of Cyborg's drivers? (Still waiting on your new release Cyborg!)
I mean...maybe there are some new settings with Catalyst 2.5 and with just pasting some old settings, they are being left out?

Anywayz, I do like the fact that I can use some fresh drivers for my Mobility card! (Thx Schwarz2!)
I will test them later on tonight. Maybe it will fix a problem that I have with King Pin (crashes when using the grenade launcher)
And I read about EA games crashing, will test NBA Live 2003 also

Hey,

Grated...I have not seen the powerplay tab in the options screen in quite a while, but it seems that powerplay should be initialized...one of the settings put in tells it to do so. If you'd like you can try playing around with the settings...like you can try enabling HKR,, DALRULE_USEOLDPOWERPLAYINTERFACE ... let us know if you do try it..

Skillz...I got these settings with the help of dissonance for the 6200 set from ati i believe it was....you may be right in that there may be new settings we're not taking advantage of. But I'm using omega's new set right now with the lines below pasted in after his settings...didn't touch his...but we can't even take his as the newest stuff since he basically wrote it from scratch. There's really no way to take advantage of everything as mobility users since ati stopped supporting us with drivers long ago. Let me know how your tests go with king pin and EA...so far my drivers have been treating me nicely...

Sad Not so good...

Well, I uninstalled the "Plutonium X1.1.18a" drivers as discribed in the uninstall manual from DH and installed my modified Catalyst 2.5 drivers. But when I rebooted my laptop all I saw were these vertical lines in the middle and leftside of the screen and nothing else....so no screen whatsoever

Maybe I made a BIG mistake by leaving the original lines from the CX_06641.inf file in the file. Here's what I did...

As you can see I placed a ";" before each ORIGINAL LINES OF THE "[ati2mtag_M7_SoftwareDeviceSettings]" part and making them this way nothing more then some comments. (....right???...)

After a system-restore (don't you just love that option!) I installed the "Radeon Win 2k/xp Omega Drivers 2.2.18"
and these drivers seemed to work. At least I could log on,
and test King Pin (which still crashes when firing the grenadelauncher )

Smartgart shows that AGP is working and fastwrites is enabled with Omega's drivers. When I turned Fastwrites OFF, I lost my AGP and there is no way I can get Fastwrites ON again

Right now I'm back to the X1.1.18a set and get some
Tomorrow I will try the Omega's once more and add the lines from the .INF file mentioned above...

I'm using them now and they work great. the smartgart menu is all greyed out, but what use is it anyway?
I like them because openGL works with them, something the latest Omega and catalyst couldn't give me..

exclamation Why don't you?....

Why don't you download the latest Omega drivers (2.3.55),
they give the best IQ I've seen this far.

I've manually edited the latest Catalyst 3.0a drivers to work with
my Mobility 7500, but the IQ lookes much better when using Omega 2.3.55 drivers.

I'm using a Mobility 7500 (32MB) and installed WinXP SP1, Omega's 2.3.55 and DX9.

Maybe I'll manually start editing the .Inf file when new Catalyst drivers are out
and the new Omega drivers aren't out yet.
