5.6 CCC user survey: The Results

The survey asked users to post their resource usage of the 3 CLI.exe processes as
would normally be running on a system with out CCC open. They then Closed the
optional tray application a noted the resource changes. I threw all the results* in
an Excel 2003 spread sheet and did the math. Here are my findings:

With the Task Bar Application running

The average CLI process used:
System Memory: 5,889K
Virtual Memory: 26,665K

For a over all average system usage of
System Memory: 17,667k
Virtual Memory: 79,995k

With the Task Bar Application closed

The average CLI process used:
System Memory: 5,114k
Virtual Memory: 30,996k

For a over all average system usage of:
System Memory: 10,228k
Virtual Memory: 61,992k

System Memory is a term I used for the physical memory such as the ram in
your computer. Virtual memory is a section of hard drive space that is used as
memory and has very little impact on system performance in this case. Windows
and applications normally pages out not currently being used but need data to
the page file often. It is when your system runs out of physical memory that
performance degradations occur.

Since the largest part of CCC is being paged out and not system in memory. It
leaves more free system memory for all other applications such as games. The
results are in and to say the least interesting. So much for the users complaining
about CCC being a memory hog and bloat ware.

Another thing you must realize your usage will very and as users noted in the survey
the resource usage off CCC shifts up and down as to make it hard to get any exact
picture but this does act as a reference. The results are from total of 20 systems

A special Thanks to all the took the time to participate

*In the interests of accuracy I had to exclude a couple submissions due to not doing
as asked and not posting the numbers required, and a couple who had strange results
that could of strewed the sampling... Hopefully next round we will be more participation
but with CAT 5.7 over the horizon it was time to put these results together.

Discuss....

well i will be happy to participate when ATI solve some serious issues with CCC, at the moment i cant make it load on my system anymore, it just stopped after 2 days of working fine.
maybe with Cats 5.7? is ATI aware of the problems people have just trying to run CCC? even with .NET 1.1 installed still many users just can't get it to load.

A lot of times its something so simple as...When was the last time you formatted?
For most people its 6months to years!!! That’s problem city... Those who heavily
use there computer format more often and have far less problems

Also a lot of people aren’t running the latest .net 1.1 sp1 + security patch Some
are running 1.0, 1.1, 1.1 sp1,

But you need the latest build for the best experience. .NET 2.0 will bring major
improvements but still has a way to go. A lot and a I mean a lot of people have
done tweak guides/tools etc and Changed/disabled the default settings for services
that are required for CCC & .net to work properly. Install 3rd party programs that
can conflict / mess up CCC. Comes down the way your system is setup. Your
firewall can even mess things up if you’re not prompted or you choose to block
the internal connections CCC makes. But most firewall incorrectly interprets as
an out bound connection and automatically blocks them. Or prompts you with
“block” chosen by default and people click ok with out changing it to allow always.
It not impassable for cheap firewalls not to prompt you but just auto block if it
not on some sort of safe list.

well you have a point there , yes it can be many different things that causes CCC not to run, but it shouldn't be so common as i see it, ATI should do a better work as im sure they will in time.

for me , format or actually load a perfect Ghost image every 6 months , last time was 2 months ago and im very particular on what i put in my system.
my firewall was totaly dissabled and its still is, i even allowed CLI.EXE to run , i have a good firewall (tiny) so im certin the fw isn't the culprit.

actually CCC ran fine for 2 days and just decided to not load anymore on the 3rd day, the only change i made was to slightly overclock my cpu from 3.0 to 3.2 ghz and restored back to 3.0 but still CCC doesn't work.

i have .NET 1.1 + a Hotfix i got from windows update, nothing more avaliable for me to dounload there and my sys is up to date, im running SP1 not going to use SP2 anytime soon.

im running the needed services and as i said CCC did run for a couple of days so i doubt its a service issue.

i know this is offtopic for this thread, i can add and say that in the 2 days CCC did work , it ran perfectly on my system and didn't bother or take noticable resources from my system.

ill a better version is avaliable im back to the old CP.

Thanks , lz
