Display resolution says 1024x768 but is obviously not?

Hi,

Recently developed the following issue:

My desktop display is set at 1024x768 but it appears as 800x600. If i drop the setting down to 800x600 and apply.....it looks the same. If i step the res up to 1280x960 then it appears as it did before the issue started.

I have scrubbed the catalyst drivers i was using, ran driver cleaner and then installed the latest catalysts to no avail.

Is this my card, my monitor or my drivers...or something else?
Nothing was changed on my system at the time this started, so i dont think its something that has been added or removed from my software or hardware.

Any help, advice or suggestions greatly appreciated!

Regards

James

System

Athlon 64 3200
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro Atlantis

System Specs

When you bring up your monitor options with the button on the front, and go to view/properties, what does it say that it's outputting for resolution? If it stays at 8x6 in there, try forcing it through another program, such as powerstrip.

you could try disabling ddc
display>settings>advanced>displays>monitor>use ddc information.
or installing monitor drivers.
