AGP Write Problem

Ever since the introduction of the Catalyst 4.10 drivers, AGP Write will not enable within Smartgart. Performance wise, is this something that I should be concerned with?

Have you checked your BIOS for the correct configuration of your AGP card?
Check to see if your Graphics Aperture Size is correct, try turning on your AGP Fastwrites on too then go into your smartgart in windows and reset then reboot and see if that fixes the problem.

I don't have the ability to turn on or off AGP Writes/Fastwrites in the bios. I don't have those options. Gigabyte didn't deem them necessary for this board. However, I can tell you that Fastwrites are enabled according to Smartgart and everything else in the bios that I can change (Agp Aperture, VGA Voltage) are set to default. I've changed those settings around many times and it unfortunately doesn't do anything to enable it.

If your card isn't performing like a hunk of junk (check benchmarks for the same card in similar systems and see), then I wouldn't worry about it. I had the same problem but it was just SmartGart being stupid

It's never been on for me. agp read is always on, but not write. I have not seen any degradation in performance. My bios also does not have these options. I say that you are fine.

I have installed the latest chipset software and that doesn't help either. One thing that I have noticed is that if I run 3D Mark 03, the scores are itentical with either AGP Write on or off. However, 3d Mark 01 show about a 2000 point drop on my system with AGP Write disabled. I'm guessing that means that games that are more cpu dependant are going to suffer?

Did you by chance uninstall your ATi card drivers before installing your chipset ones? If not.. I'd highly recommend you do that due to the fact that any video card driver never works as good as it's suppose too without the chipset drivers being installed first, and this is from experience. lol

If games, not benchmarks, perform just as well as with them off as they do on, I wouldn't worry

The main thing is that the agp bus speed (8x, 4x, etc) is not off in smartgart. Make sure your 3 acceleration options are also on in the display tab of dxdiag.
