*This is my friend who is having this problem, he did not have an account so I told him to post under my name.*
today i recieved my "new" gateway fpd1800 that i won on ebay last week. the reason i got this monitor is because i have had the same exact monitor for a few years now and wanted to run dual monitors. after work i went out to buy a vga to dvi converter and finally found one three stores later (both radioshack and best buy did not carry them) at frys for $12. i connected the second monitor to my ati 9600xt via the vga slot while keeping my first monitor connected to the dvi slot. following the directions from many different googled dual monitor configuration sites nothing seems to work. my first thought was that the newly purchased monitor was dead, but after switching the cables it was clear that both monitors are working great. second i thought that the vga slot on my video card was broken, but i attached my brothers crt and it ran dual monitors fine. so now i can only figure that the problem is because of either the converter is busted, or the monitor cannot accept the converted signal (from the vga slot). any suggestions, or anyone who has had similar problems would be very helpful. any information PLEASE. ATI manual says that you're not supposed to use a 3rd party DVI - VGA converter, because some cards don't like them, however I haven't had a 3rd party DVI - VGA converter, so I wouldn't know.
