Benchmarks of the 5.6 sets.
Found this last night looking for some comparisons with all the driver sets out there for the ATi Catalyst 5.6. I don't agree with their conclusion about NGO, to me it looks more like Omega takes the cake so to speak but I'll let you gage it for yourselves, interesting none the less..
ATi 5.6 Catalyst & Modded driver sets.

Yep there are a lot of people that don't benchmark the right way and don't set up a
laboratory like environment. The do enough between sets and so for and the previous set then affects the scores or each set there after. defragmentation of the hard driver etc... If not all addressed and it very pace taking to do properly then the results will never be full true and fully reproducible. So many just load the drivers on their system and benchmark. Not everyone runs 3-5 batches of tests. If test are simply ran in a different order it can give a slightly different result...etc.. So I take a lot of them with a grain of salt... Also the reviewrs they can be fans of a particular sets and in some cases I've tested wit they exact same setup and got very different results. Different winners and losers so you begin to wonder if they benchmarked wit the PC on or off . Though I'm not even read this review site liked to aboves results wanted to mention that I talk talking about any specfic part but in genral. Over all with all my experience with modded sets and knowing well enough to create my own though I don't. I prefer the official ATI drivers not only because I'm a tester. Modded drivers do bring something to the table but the also introduce other factors into a system. That can lead to undesirable effects as they are not limited and completely in the know about the drivers as ATI is. 3rd party tools, undocumented system tweaks that could cause instability etc... It just safer to use ATI's... If you have or want to use a modded set though, Omega is and has been the set of choice among serious gamers for many years and even preferd by ATI. There are so many moded sets now it hard to keep track of them it needs to be narrowed down.

I am a long time Omegadrive user. But this time i prefer NGOs. Go ahead and flame me but they work and thats all i want. Might be a placebo effect as Neon Cowboy says but BF2 seems to run smother wth these.

I use ATI Catalyst on my Windows XP SP2 install, because I find them easiest to use and most stable (my Windows XP is for every day stuff and gaming/LAN parties).
For my Windows 2000 install, I use Omega's but I'm on this one less. I use this for benchmarking/tweaking. In Gentoo Linux I use the ATI Linux drivers. |
