5.7 didnīt work for me....

Well... 5.6īs didnīt work for me so I thought it was a bug, but now I installed 5.7īs and I got the same problem, the card shows ok in device manager but windows still uses "VgaSave" instead of catalyst drivers.

5.4 drivers work so I donīt know what to do... Please help me Its very frustrating to be unable to use the newest drivers.

you should post your system specs (Processor, motherboard, and most importantly your card) for best support. If you remember the error or any other info, post that too.

CPU: Ahtlon XP 2100+
MEM: 768 MB PC2700
MB : Gigabyte GA-7VA-C KT333CF AGP 4x
VC : Gigabyte Radeon 9550 128 MB
OS : Windows XP SP2 Spanish (SP2 Slipstreamed)

- Tried all bios configuration possible
- <5.4 work ok
- > 5.4 have problems (Havenīt tried with 5.5)
- Tried older 4in1, standard drivers from xp and latest hyperions
- Tried all modded drivers except DNA

Iīve read that sometimes the vgasave problem can be solved by disabling smartgart or installing drivers from device manager but neither of that workarounds worked for me.

Sure, everytime I install new drivers I use DC. I also used cab cleaner with no results.

Have you tried to force the driver installation through device manager, rather than using the installer yet?

Strange, check one more thing - right click on your desktop, select properties, go to Settings/Advanced/Troubleshoot and see at which level is the Hardware acceleration set. It should be on Full.

Next check if AtiSmart service is set to automatic, and see if you can start/stop it without problems. Lastly, run "dxdiag" from start/run and see what that tells you.

i have the same problem and can't figure out what is causing it. i haven't tried forcing the installation of the drivers yet through device manager, but i have tried reinstalling them twice. the worst part is that everything but benchmarks and games recognize that the card is there.

Well... I formatted and did a fresh install of Windows... and voila!!... it didnīt work, so I took extreme measures... I modified my Gigabyte 9550 bios (9550 F1) and changed the ID values of the bios to a 9600 XT. Inmediatly the bios recognized "my card" as 9600 xt and now runs without problems.

So my question is: Why 5.4 supported my card but 5.6 and 5.6 donīt?

Strange indeed. Either way, if this ever comes back to haunt you, let us know the deviceIDs. We can make you a custom file that will work.

Strange, something must changed in the inf files. Anyways, the card is now detected as 9600xt (but the device id is from gigabyte 9600 PRO) so it shouldnīt have any further problems.

The original bios had:

Device ID: 4153
SubSystemID: 4050
SubVendorID: 1458

I modded the bios to:

Device ID: 4150
SubSystemID: 4022
SubVendorID: 1458

Thanks and I hope this helps other people with the same problem.

I have a very similar problem, drivers 5.4> do not work, I have tried reformat, other modded drivers, another thing none of the official catalyst work on my system thats why I use Omega because they are the only drivers I could find that worked and now they dont work after version 5.4. I get the same error message as the user above, and i have also a "VIA" chipset and use hyperions but why did another user say not to use them? What could be used instead? an one more thing, what is this custom file you can make?
