Okay now it’s deep. I upgraded my machines to Windows pro x64 ed about a week ago and got a serious boost of speed.. My graphic driver on the other had suffered dearly, I have a Dual tyan thunder K8W with (opteronX2) with a X800XT PE and a SK8N FX-53 with a Asus A9800XT limited ed and neither will complete the catalyst instillation.. After getting to the choice of express install or custom I press one of them (both tried) and then it looks normal, the splash screen goes away and a progress bar appears with the dialog box in the upper left had corner as usual but after that nothing happens.. It just all vanishes… And I’m stuck with high end machines and Microsoft drivers… Any ideas or work arounds?

Looks like you are not the only one with this strange problem. While a lot of people (including myself) have no issues, this thread proves otherwise.

geting 64 bit driver working
i had this same issue in the past:
uninstall the previous driver completely using the add/remove in the control panel. for some reason, ati needs to be removed using ati's removal system. once this is done, you can unzip the archive to a folder on your hard drive, then, run through the setup. allow it to do a full install. this should work. system will prompt you to reboot, go ahead and do so. once it reboots, it will pop up the "ati tool extension" and run a setup. this is supposed to optimize your display driver. then, the driver should work. if any of this fails, to force the install right click My computer click manage go to the driver, right click on your video card, do a update driver, select manual install of driver, and point it to the path of the extracted files. it should then show you the options you can pick from. if it dosen't show your video card then de-select the compatability flag and pick from the list you may need to do this twice depending on if your card has two dvi ports. (one primary and one secondary) both dvi's will need the same driver reboot and you're all set DONT FORGET to set the ACCELERATION to 100% on your driver i run windows 2003 x64 and it sets it to 25% as default (not sure why?) hope this works. also don't forget the new 5.7 driver has the control center (50 meg download) available on ati.s homepage |
