9600xt

Well i recently got a new computer(Yesterday) with this graphics card. The problem, if it is a problem during game play. i.e.(Counter-Strike 1.6) My Frames Per Second seem to drop everytime i look at someone, or a dead bodie, or just surten parts of my map
I have configed the graphics card for best performance to as much as i know.

Now what i'm wondering is, alot of people have the same grapics card as me and get 100 FPS Constent, and for me it will drop down to 30 sometimes.

Where does the other 80 come from? or where is it going?

Thank you.

I have the same problem with 9550 running @ 9600 pro/xt... and I always had this problem with ATI cards... some people say is a matter of PSU, but the main reason is that CS runs on a very old engine and opengl driver is optimized for newer games... I even tried "ultimate cs drivers" and they run only a little better... I now get the same fps as with my older 9100/8500.

If you've got anti aliasing on its normal.

CS 1.6 shouldn't lag a 9600 though...it barely touched my 8500 @ 1024x768 anyway

Thank you.
This usually happens because of your motherboard/chipset drivers not being installed properly with your ati drivers. I'd try uninstalling your ati drivers and if you've installed your chipset drivers I'd uninstall those as well. Then use drivercleaner and get rid of all the stuff that's been left behind, then install your chipset drivers first > reboot.. then install your ati drivers > reboot and you should be fine. Also after installing games and drivers you should always (rule of thumb) do a defragment of any partition on the Harddrive.

Peace

It's your call Webster, but Counter-Strike 1.6 shouldn't be giving you that many problems with your fps like it is. I've had the same problem before and I did exactly what I explained and I was fraggin @ 100 constant fps.

Peace and Good luck

As I said, this is a very random problem and I don´t know why it happens... I used to get 100 fps with an athlon 1700+ and geforce4 mx460 (that´s why I changed the better 8500 in the first place) with 256 MB ram , same mobo. Now I get less fps with a better card, better cpu, more than double the memory, and a lot of overclock... how you can explain that? It isn´t a matter of chipset or card, it´s just the drivers that don´t run well on older software. I´ve tried all the tweaks I found but nothing seems to solve my problem. Disabling vsync is NOT a solution, I run my monitor @ 120 hz w/triple buffering so I should get 100 fps and also enabling developer isn´t a solution, is just a graphic glitch.

Last thing... why 100 fps? (If you don´t play CS) That´s because the crosshair shrinks @ fps speed, so less fps = worse aim

FPS = frames per second

It (fps) has nothing to do with aim in counter-strike or any other game for that matter. It's really not that random of a problem that your dealing with here, if you install all your drivers properly and have your directx updated then you should be getting 100fps in counter-strike without an issue. I would take a read @ these two articles, and maybe that might help you understand a little better on your ati drivers and the game counter-strike.

Peace

Drop your af down... with that card aa should not be up that high Honestly i would try with it set for application also and see if the issue occurs also. If not you know the problem. Even with my 9800 i do not run mine as 16 x AF. Usually around 8 or so.

CS 1.6 stays almost always locked at 100 FPS even when I have AA/AF on, still try turning them off.

AF is a very hungry filter ... just drop it to 4x and play .. you wont see much diffenrence in IQ anyway ....

Umm...AF is not very hungry, AA is more frame hungry than AF....I see about 2% drop in FPS at most on my card

Not really.

My 8500 was much the same. AF isn't as bad as AA but IMO AF makes the game look WAY better

From my own experience and from what I've read, Anti-Aliasing hits ATI cards much harder than Anistropic Filtering. Take a look at some of the Firingsquad card reviews to get an idea...

Honestly though, I'm running around too fast in First Person perspective type games to notice a lot of scenery...

Turning off AA should help quite a bit...

Try to lower AF and we will see .. even if AF isnt hitting as much as AA 16x is the max and the more you crank it the more you get hit ... try it a lower settings and come back to us with the result ok ?

It had no change what so ever and here is the thing right on the box

"Full support for the AGP 8X standard doubles bandwidth for more engaging characters and environments"

But the more players... the less fps i get...

That is just hype. It doubles the theoretical bandwidth between the video card and the CPU, not the actual speed of anything.

Another thing to try is to reinstall CS, and delete the steam cache. That fixed my CS: S lag problems

Hey, the ATI Smartgart isnt quite so smart. I had to enable the fast write : on for my xtasy 9600xt 256 for it to work right. Your running the omega drivers, you might notice that he put a statement about 9600's during the installation. Just reinstall the omega drivers and during the install answer yes to fast write on.

I googled b4 I enabled mine and it gives the AGP direct access to the CPU. It's like a 10% burst.

Just a shot in the dark
