8/10
It is the first time I'm using the CCC so I can compare it only with the old CP. CCC is a bit slower and it could start quicker. On the other hand I like the options diversity. What I don't understand: Why is there no button to chance between performance and quality AF? |

First time CCC user, I guess I'll stay with it now, as nothing broke.
7/10 as I found the old CP layout more logical - and I preferred the "coolbits" extra panels on my old Nvidia. I like to be able to dip into some advanced options, without switching the entire settings mode to advanced. |

Gave the CCC a nice shinny 9. It has become just as slick and stable as the drivers it controls. Responds quickly to commands and does what I tell it to without complaint.
psst. hey Terry, good job. You and your team deserve a big round of applause. clap clap clap clap

Quickest, most responsive CCC yet. The taming of the resource usage is great too.
I give 'em a 10. |

I spoke too soon - despite a good initial install, getting the firewall well set, CCC now seems to get completely mired in the startup - it seems as if it may be a timing issue between the components of it and the firewall.
Anyway, it's now a big fat zero for me, and maybe I'll take the easy way out this time and dump it for the CP version! |

Gave ti a 10 why? simple it is near perfect for me it´s like a saab vs ferarri(5.8) being the ferarri 5.7 saab in response with FW AVG enabled so 10 is what it gets

Also an 8/10. The initial load of CCC is noticably faster, but still takes a good three-second-count, the second time you bring up CCC is < 1 second, quite snappy.
CCC is using two processes, about 5MB real and ~20MB VM each. That seems to be about a third smaller than earlier versions would, so it looks like a solid cleanup and improvement, and the improved usability and loading time make CCC much nicer.

Needs a few more features before it gets an 8 or 9. It is faster than before, but still too slow. Uses less mem than before, but still could use less. *resize the CCC window* *shut off ALL videos in the CCC* *more resolutions that your CRT monitor supports* *more control over refresh rates* *hmm, where is that digital vibrance equivalent we were told was going to be available?* *separate 3D settings for OpenGL and Direct 3D*

This isn't a rating post. It's a 'bug report'. Maybe it would be a good idea to have DH start a separate thread for any bugs found in newly-released driver packages.
At any rate, when I click on the System Information radio button, it never ever brings up any new window with information. It's like the button is completely dead. |

Terry, ill admit right of the bat I didnt want to use the CCC. I had used it in the past and it was a real pain to use. As it stands now with the 5.8, my system is just as functional as it is without CCC. Great job!

EDIT: As stated above, clicking on System Information in other apps works fine. It's not working at all for me in the CAT 5.8 CCC as shown in the image below:

![]() What's strange is that this works in apps like 3DMark (all versions) and anything else I've tried that has a button like this. I'm wondering if this is being stopped by some kind of permissions thing? Maybe a popup blocker setting? |

Nothing like spending 300 bucks on a new card to see eye candy at full speed and then noticing it will not display bump mapping or shaders on 90% of the textures in Far cry and HL2.. After installing the CCC and 5.8 3 times and reinstalling Far Cry 3 times- and installing HL2 for the very first time on this XP install.. I can't figure it out. I don't even want to think about reinstalling windows. I just did, and got it tuned perfectly. What a pain this is gonna be.

The CCC is reasonably fast and very stable but it's still lagging behind Nvidia's drivers in terms of features unfortunately. The custom resolution capabilities under "EDID override" are still very rudimentary compared to Nvidia's custom resolution capabilities. The resolution changes jump in to large increments and you can't create a custom 1080p resolution for example. Many HDTV users will not buy an ATI card because they have to use PowerStrip (ugh). Also, ATI drivers still lack anything comparable to "Digital Vibrance", and they still lack the ability to enforce custom refresh rates at specific resolutions. Instead we ATI users get the "Catalyst Control Center" which is nice and all, but I REALLY would have preferred it if ATI had added more power user features to the drivers instead of focusing on the CCC.

I usually only install Omega's drivers, but was curious and gave these a try. My first thought after installing and starting to re-configure everything was "Could they have been made any more confusing?" My second was "Is there actually anything not included in Omega's drivers?" After a couple of hours i was no more impressed with the CCC, removed them and reinstalled Omega's last release.
I've given these a 4. As far as i could tell, the only concrete improvement for all the overhead is the 3d preview window, and it left me rather underwhelmed. The window layout is a confusing, overengineered and poorly thought out mess, compared to the simple and uncluttered layout of the standard control panel - tabs were simple and easy, why take them away? I can't see any reason for the 'special' (and rather unappealing) themes - i have WindowBlinds installed, and it's theming of the non-CCC control panel is much less visually discordant, not to mention much more resource-friendly. I'll be sticking with non-CCC versions (probably continuing to use Omega's versions) for the foreseeable future. |
