It doesn't matter who they are made by, but what number (4.12, 4.8, 5.7, etc) would be the best version of catalyst for me to get for my 9600 XT? I've found that 4.12 has the best so far but I was wondering what the people who own cards from the 9600 series were running.

I second the 5.8 CCC...the new CCC is kick ass, VERY fast and low mem usage to boot

I'm running the Omega 5.7's - work great! Had to reset the internal game settings with FarCry to correct graphics corruption but now all runs great - equivalent or better than 4.12's - and no crashes. I've got the card you asked about too...
I'm waiting for Omegadrive to release his version of the 5.8's to save any installation hassles - his stuff just installs over his previous version (after uninstalling the ATT first...) - too easy, and a major time saver for me.

I have a 9600xt on an amd64 2800+ windows xp sp2 system. Currently I am running Catalyst 5.6's with no problems. However, as soon as I update to either 5.7 or 5.8, I find that CS:Source tends to crash, especially on cs_office (which I think is a somewhat more intensive level for the vid card). Any ideas as to why?
Also, since I'm only running things at 1024x768 with no Anti-aliasing, is it even worth the bother of updating to 5.8? |

It could be for a 9600 XT.
But TBH you'd be better to overclock the crap out of the core, they do really well even with stock cooling
