Problems with ati tray tools and ati tools

Hi, having problems with my new x800xtpe refurb. Installed cat 5.8ccc and all works well. But both ati tray tools and ati tools have lock ups. With ati tools I have also experienced a corrupted screen - looks like memory artifacts. Reboot and all is gone. If I have ati tools set to start with windows this can happen. Only want to slow down my idle fan speeds a notch for quiet.

Have had problems with all versions of ccc and also feel that at times my audigy 2 conflicts with the ccc. Had a heck of a time recently getting the audigy 2 reinstalled as creative drivers were not finding it.

So is my card hooped? Or is this likely all driver conflicts -- any ideas?

Never received any bug reports like your! Do you overclocking your board with ATI Tray Tools? I recomend to use Low Precision mode in ATI Tray Tools overclocking module

what was your old card?
what kind of psu do you have?
what do you have cooling the card?
and can you get a shot of the corrupted screen?

My old card was a 9700pro and tray tools ran fine with the omega drivers. Have an older sonota case with the 380 ps. My temps are around 40 - 44 idle and 65 max on load. The corrupted screen was columns of different coloured pixels overlaying the normal screen. Had a fryed 4600 that did a very similar thing. I am now trying the newest beta of ati tools and it seems ok so far. I will try the next release of omega - as I think I prefer tray tools - if I can get it to automatically set up fan speed on start up.

p.s. Have not tried overclocking at all.

maybe cleaning out your video drivers with drivercleaner will help.
ATT allows you to set the fan speed at startup.
goto hardware>overclocking settings>fan tab>include in profile. you'll also need to check load selected profile at startup in the overclocking tab.

did you get that corrupted screen just after startup?

Cleaned out all my old drivers with driver cleaner. Got the corrupted screen several times when starting up atitool. This happened with a fresh reboot and set at automatic startup. Ati tray tool would give me a lock up when using it (needed reboot). Newest beta version of atitool - still seems stable. Likely this is a driver thing - as I said - history of problems with ccc (earlier versions would lock up) and feel like there is a small conflict somewhere with my audio drivers. Would be very disapointed if all this means my vid memory has some issues.

Also thanks for the info on how to add fan settings to ati tray tool - when I get this settled or next omegas - will try this.

well i cant really comment on ccc since i dont use it. you can try going to device manager then view>sort devices by connection and see if your audigy is sharing an irq with your video card. speaking of which do you have the sound card (or another card) in the pci slot just below your agp slot?

Irq is fine, audigy is in slot one - furthest away.

No I have not had any lockups, but I did find my gpu fan turned off! Luckily temps were only 52 C on idle and had only been going about 30 minutes. So I am giving up on the automatic settings and will only use it myself when noise is a concern and can monitor it. Seems I am the only one that the fan noise bothers (guess I am anal). This was with the newest version of ati tool.

So I guess once I am confident in my new card I will get either a zalman or artic after market cooler - and noise will hopefully not be an issue. Thanks for your help.

I am have problems similar to Ronnn's. I have an X700 mobility radeon on an Acer Travelmate 4402 (Turion64 processor, Win XP Pro) with a Radeon Xpress 200m chipset. I used a slightly older version of ATT but when I tried to upgrade, I had lockups at every startup using the DH Mod Tool to modify the desktop 5.8 Catalyst drivers.

I also tried the Omega Drivers which now include a compatible ATT, but I get the same result. I even removed the drivers, the old att and ccc in safe mode with Driver Cleaner but no go. The symptoms are as follows: boots as normal, wireless network connects, ATT starts and then nothingness. CCC doesn't even have a chance to load. I can move the mouse but no programs with start and if I right click the mouse on the ATT tray icon I hear a system beep and then a completely unresponsive computer.

I have resorted to CCC standing alone with the Omega Drivers and I have disabled the ATT startup item (from msconfig). It's too bad because I loved the auto overclock setting for 3d applications. My laptop crashes when I leave it overclocked and I try to start it on battery power. I have resorted to the use of Rage 3D Tweak to try and overclock but I don't find it as nice to use and it seems to have stopped working.

I have run sigverif but the only unsigned drivers now are the Omegas. I'm thinking of using a previous version of att with the Omega Drivers, but sheesh have I been doing a lot of restarting!

Even at stock speed this happens. I only overclock when a 3d application demands it. In desktop (2d mode) att sits in wait.

It's not a boot thing either. I still have att installed, I just disabled the run at start feature. If I ever try to run it from its desktop icon though, I get that familiar lock-up (requiring a cold boot).

Event log reveals nothing of note. It's hard to determine what the cause might be, especially when there are few similar examples.

It is possible that ATT doesb't support Mobility X700 series.I've never tested it

I was happily auto-overclocking my x700 with the previous version of att. The Omega Driver release notes include added support for x700 series cards, although I have never touched the API myself and wouldn't know where to begin. What's more, I have not been able to find a live link to the previous version of att.

I am able to overclock with RadLinker but again this one lacks the auto-overclock feature I loved from att! I am able to play games smoothly and it seems as though I have some Hypermemory effect depending on which tool is calculating the vram (3D Mark 05 details showed 128mb memory after testing and Sandra says 570mb [64mb video, 502mb system], although Windows display properties still show 64mb).

In total, I have 1536mb of RAM on my laptop and assumed Hypermemory would take advantage. It seems as though it has since games seem to run smoother with higher detail (notably UT2k4 and NFSU 2).

I appreciate your help Ray and ChoGGi!

Well, I found a Russian site that still had it's own copy of att 1.0.3.720 and all is well. I restored my profiles and now have auto overclocking enabled! For now lets assume my problem with 1.0.3.730 is an anomaly. At least until we hear from more tweakers with my problem.

Maybe I should try an older copy. I used the latest omega drivers and had a lockup on 3dm03 (first ever I think), having the fan control enabled. Using the latest cats and just the cc with ati tools seems stable. I really have to track down my problems with the ccc.

Hey Alcom, I got a Gateway 8510gz with x700 mobile. I got the same issue as you. I don't load ATT from startup but when I tried to launch it from program menu, immediately freeze. Have to power off and on the laptop. Gotta be bug.

I also DL a copy of 1.0.3.720, is it possible to install over top or do I have to uninstall/reinstall?

Tia.

I had no problem simply overwriting 1.0.3.730 by running the 1.0.3.720 installer. The run at startup feature was restored and I have had no problems since then. No need to uninstall the newer one first!

Sorry Ray, I have had contiuing problems with versions since 1.0.3.720 so I have held on to the old version. Any setting changed with a later version results in a lock up as I described earlier.

Did you ever make a version that had an install option to omit fan detection?

Just disable I2C procedures in atitray.ini
