Cool! ATI Omega Drivers 2.5.76 (Win9x/ME)

New (Omega 2.5.76)
* Based on the official 9076 ATI drivers.
* DirectX 9.0 support (that explains the version number change)
* Removed some old tweaks that are no longer necesary.
* Used the 9072 OpenGL driver since the new OpenGL ICD was very buggy.
* Since they D3D core is based on the Catalyst 3.0 drivers, Dx9 is a MUST to use these drivers.

Discuss here...

This might be a dumb question, but is DX9 compatible with Win98? If not, how could the 98/ME users run this driver set?

It's not a dumb question, and yes 98 can run DX9. (At least it worked peachy on 3 of my rigs. )

I'm running DX 9.0 Final on both of my 98SE systems. No problems so far that I can tell.

I do have ONE question, though: Where's the LINK to those new Omega drivers?

OK...the problem is with how the forum is acting right now. It's S-L-O-W.

If it went any slower it would come to a complete stop.

Seems it's ALL the forums, though, not just this one.

Also, I did get to Omegadrive's WEB site and the two download links for the 9x/ME drivers. The Tech one works great once you register. The other one was chugging along a 9Kb per sec. I cancelled that one and registered at the Tech one.

DX9 and Win98...I may have to give it try. What about the new driver? Anybody have some tangible feed back on Omega's new driver set?

Catalyst 3.0 and MHz question

Omega, where can we download the Catalyst 3.0?

I'm having the slow fps problem as a lot of other people.

You stated that directX 9.0 is a must for Catalyst 3.0.

I downloaded DirectX 9.0, but I'm using Catalyst 2.5. Just wondering if 3.0 would fix my fps problem.

Another question...

What MHz does each of your custom resolutions run at? Mine always reads as "Optimal", should I place it at a certain resolution?

Thanks

Is Hz, not Mhz
Zynge, you can choose the desired Hz option when installing the drivers, you can choose between 75, 85 and 100Hz, depending on what your monitor can handle.

As for the "Optimal" Refresh Rate question, I usually select my resolutions manually, never use the optimal option, Why?, I want my monitor to last a LOOOONG time.
Let me explain: When you select the "Optimal" setting, you are forcing you monitor to work at it's highest frequecy possible, and thus, stressing the monitor. If you choose a lower Refresh Rate than the maximum for a given resolution, then the monitor will not be stressed and will be running in a more passive mode.
I usually choose 1 or 2 notches lower than the maximum Hz, but not falling lower than 75Hz, Ex. I the max RR for the monitor at 1024x768 is 120Hz, and the next options I have are 100Hz and 85Hz, I choose 85Hz, at that rate my eyes will not get stressed and the monitor will not work hard, thus, prolonging the life of the monitor itself...

Thumbs Up!

Ok... Hz.. got it.

Thanks... But, where do I download Catalyst 3.0 from? ATI seems to have it hidden on thier website.

Or do I even need it?

The link is on the main page, on the bottom right, "CATALYSTâ„¢ 3.0 - Shatter The Boundaries Of Visual Realism." Too lazy to search for it?
