Cool! ATI Omega Drivers 2.3.55 (Win2k/XP)

New (Omega 2.3.55)
* Based on the official 6255 ATI drivers.
* DirectX 9.0 support. (that explains the version number change)
* Fixed the Mobility problems. (I hope, not tested)
* This release is a mix from the 6218 drivers and the 6255 drivers, this was done to fix the stuttering and OpenGL problems introduced in the new catalyst 3.0 drivers, these drivers should NOT have those problems.
* Since they D3D core is based on the Catalyst 3.0 drivers, Dx9 is a MUST to use these drivers.
* Fixed the Alpha Blending Acceleration, now Windows will have full HW Alpha Blending support.
* The SMARTGART control panel is GONE in this release, Why?, because it had no use, that CP was used to troubleshoot problems, not to fix any. Those settings can be adjusted in the computer's BIOS and FastWrites can be turned OFF in the normal PERFORMANCE tab found in Windows (but is better to turn it off in the BIOS).

Discuss here...

I did a benchmark. My 3dmark 2k1 score is 6513. An all time high for my laptop. 100 more than before. Specs, 2ghz, 1gb ram, Radeon Mobility 9000, win2k sp4 rc4.27.

Cool!

I did, on my 7500 bumped my 3dMark2001 score up about 100 points from the ATI 3.0 driver... not bad Omega... and most importanly my AGP texture acceleration works unlike with Catalyst 2.5 and 3.0 (official release)

I'm back after playing a few games... Warcraft III and NFSD HP2 perform much better than they ever did... once again great job

Hey Omega I haven't used your drivers in ages, but decided to give these a shot just for the hell of it. I wasn't having any problems with the Catalyst 3.0's mixed with the 2.5's 2D drivers, but I must say, this package and your tweaks are great. Good work, once again.

Pissed

with this new set DVI doesnt work, few seconds after the XP boot screen my TFT goes blank with a message: No digital input.
I had this problem also with all ATI`s official drivers but never had them with Omega or Plutonium drivers, thats why i always used them in the 1st place.

Omega please look into this no DVI because tou`re drivers where always the best for me.

hmmmmmmm....

Well I'm running DVI with mine on a Samsung 191T !!

So you get NO signal at all??? What did you have to connect it via a VGA cable?

I see you have a 8500 while I have a 9700 Pro though.....I never have had that problem so it must be something to do with your 8500!???

Only a dvi cable connected, tried about 5 drivers sets (plutonium/omega) and they all did work fine with dvi, only this set doesnt work, so i hope omega or a forum member knows how to solve it.

dmorack is on a distinguished road

I have an IBM ThinkPad T30 (Mobility Radeon 7500 - 16MB with a 1400x1050 LCD screen) running Windows 2000 SP3 and DirectX 9. After installation and reboot, the screen comes up with the 1400x1050 resolution of the LCD screen. When I look in the Display Control Panel, the resolution seems to be set at 640x480 even though the LCD screen is displaying at 1400x1050. It will only allow me to set it up to 1280x1024 - no option for 1400x1050 is available.

Now, if I go into the ATI Options panel and turn off "Allow desktop panning", then I get the option of setting the resolution to 1400x1050. Great!!!!

But, after a reboot, the LCD screen comes up with the default resolution of 640x480. I have to change it to 1400x1050 manually everytime I boot up and log in.

Anyone else have this problem?

The latest IBM supplied driver does not exhibit this problem.
ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/mobiles/vftp1g2k.exe

I'd like to run the Omega drivers if I can. IBM's are quite dated.

Thanks!

Smilie

I got about 400 less 3dmarks with this driver, probably the Omega drivers have some tweaks to increase IQ hence the drop in speed.(I did clean the registry of all ati entries b4 installing these). Runs Giants ok.

OpenGL performance is fine, tested in UT2003(changed to OGL)..same as the 6218 drivers since both uses the same ati opengl driver.

Sad Omega New ATI Driver

OK, I installed the new Omega drivers after cleaning the old ATI 2.5 FILES AND THE REGISTERY.

1. 3D Mark 2001SE Crashes to desktop
2. Ghost Recon, Desert Seige and Island Thunder Crash to desktop.
3. Once while just sitting at desktop my PC restarted for no reason.

Some of the old 3.0 problems were corrrected:
1. Shutter in all games.

2. No campaign selection in Comanche4

Well I guess I'll wait on ATI to fix the 3.0's.

Thanks anyway.

Dumb question, but did you install DX9? The O-man said you need it to run these.

Yes,

DX9 is installed. I tried to uninstall the Omega drivers with the uninstall feature and it did not work. I used the windows program uninstall function to remove the Omega drivers. I cleaned the registery as well. I reinstalled the 2.5 and now everytime I restart windows a get a just recovered from serious error message caused by hardware driver message.

Not a happy camper right now!!

Sorry to hear.

But I think something must have went wrong with your original un-installing of the drivers. For future reference, you do NOT have to un-install your drivers before installing Omegadrive's sets. In fact, he recomends against it.

Big Grin Good Job...

Followed the Genius uninstall guide and then installed this new Omega set, and everything was perfect for now.

I have an ASUS L3840 notebook with 7500 Mobility 32Mb and XP SP1.

The options tab in the driver's advanced options reports:

Quote:
2D Version: 6.13.10.6218
Video Driver: 7.81-021213a-006924C-ATI
Control Panel: 6.14.10.4012
I have a doubt with the 2D version, shouldn't it be .6255?

I'm perfectly sure that I deleted every old file when I uninstalled. I followed the procedure to the bit.

Anyway everything is fine for now...thanks Omega, great job!

Just on a side note about not being able to download the complete files, most of these servers don't permit the use of download managers as a side effect of their protection against leeching. If you open the file that your download manager aquired, you will see html code and that's why you think you downloaded something when in fact all you got was an anti-leeching message.

Hummmmmmmm,

Did I miss that little tibet in a read me somewhere? The Omega drivers did seems to be higher in graphic quality. I wish I could get them to work. Unlike many others I am willing to give up a little speed for higher quality grpahics.

M7 is A-OK

Benchies are about the same. IQ is good, but it was never bad either. I have noticed crashes after long periods of gaming (two or more hours while plugged) but I think this is a thermal issue.
