Age Of Empires III Graphic Corruption (R9600 Pro)
Hi
I have just downloaded the demo for Age Of Empires III and I'm unable to play the game. When I get in the main menu of the game, there are always flashing corruption things on my screen, I have tried all kind of settings in game/catalyst drivers, but the glitches just stay (In the game menu and when playing the game). I'm currently running catalyst 5.8, I have the same problems with catalyst 5.7 . My Radeon 9600 is not overclocked Anyone has the same problem or has a solution? Greetz Grated edit: Catalyst 5.9 didn't solve the problem

Well considering how new the game is I'm not surprised. Maybe you'll have to wait till 5.9, if enough people complain a fix may be implemented

My x700 won't even start the game. I get an error about Direct3D initialization failed.

To force the game to run at a certain resolution, make a text file in the folder My Documents\My Games\Age of Empires 3\startup\user.cfg Then designate the resolution using "xres=" and "yres=" for example... xres=2560 yres=1600 Will start the game up in 2560x1600 personally I wouldnt even bother trying to play the demo, its rubbish, the tool panel takes up 1/3 the screen and its a total let down with substandard coding all round. Hopefully when they release the final game it might work better. My hopes are no longer high. |

I know that there may be some problems with the demo, but I'd really like to try it. This is one of a very select number of games that intrigues me(hence why i bought a laptop with only a 64MB x700). I'd like to keep up on the various known issues that might affect me. edit - and i tried it, setting the resultion to 1440x900...and I still get the same error. created the user.cfg file in the correct location, setting xres and yres. |

Ok, I figured it out. Zardon's fix above is valid for some, but not me. Similar idea though, about start up resolution for the game.
http://aoe3.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/...=11,23521,0,10 That has a variety of suggestions in there. Just depends how far your system got as to which one you need to do. Mine was the xml file needed to be edited. |
