This poll is to complement my other thread about Catalyst A.I. (I forgot that I could make it a poll :P)
What Catalyst A.I. setting do you use most of the time?

The default setting looks to be low from within the Direct3d submenu of the ATI Tray Tools supplied with the 5.8 Omegadriver set. So far, it ain't broke so I'm not gonna fix it - but I might fiddle if I get time...

AI targets to give you optimal FPS with out effecting or sacrificing image quality.
Off (NOT RECCOMENDED) Disables AI optimizations including some bug fixes Low (RECCOMENDED)(Default) AI optimizations enabled, best setting for all virtually all systems. High (RECCOMENDED FOR ULTRA HIGH END SYSTEM SETUPS ONLY) AI optimizations enabled, not for all systems, Enables more intense algorithms that adds a system load. If you have a system thats not powerful enough for this setting you will see little to no gain and will possibly see a decrease in performance.

So looking at my specs, I should use "Low" right?

So is it better to use low instead of high? I've got a 9800 Pro and i am using high. I never noticed a difference in image quality, but what is faster? low or high?

It creates more problems for me than anything, i.e. randomly removes the head off of characters in KotOR and makes the walls all neon purple. I'll stick with it off thanks

threads every day here is the real question for me, Do you? AS for me, am I working as in drawing a paycheck?-no as for my affilation with them thats purely FMTNAFYTFO FYI: You don't have to work there to know commonly and publicly "known" information...But It seems I remember things others don't or that they seem to have "missed" all togeather Quote:
with thier latest patches and I get NOTHING like that and I always run with AI on low (default) Sounds like you've got some serious game issues there though what card and drivers and settings are you useing? Take a screenshot steps to reproduce and report it to ATI via the driver feed back form. Quote:
"disabling Catalyst AI disables application specific optimizations, bug fixes and generic optimizations." http://www.hardwareheaven.com/articles/atiop/ The way it goes is your better off with it on low unless you run into a specific problem in wich case you should report it to ATI via their feed back form...and its not like it hurts anything to turn it off, it just your usually going to get your best experience with it on as it help performance and allow the with out adversely affecting image quality + to allow the bug fixes to work.. The best setting for most people? default (LOW), though some may prefer it off or on high. If you have problems with games with AI, I can’t stress strongly though how important it is for you report those issues via the feed back form. It also helps to create a discussion thread or add to an existing one with those who have the same problem. With information such as you card and system specs. Beta testers and ATI employess frequent this forum. If they see an issue and have have the title avilable they try to reprduce it and report any such findings to ATI again helping te process along. Quote:
make a great question next time we have a Q&A or you might remeber to ask when then 5.9's are released and terry is around. If you don't get an answer just don't be complely suprised if they don't they have thier just resons. For all you know it could be some propriatary information invovled... Don't know if it a big secrect more then it being nothing they might not want adverised. Even nvidia doesn't "advertise" its opuimzations or even really tell ou what they are for that matter almost no one does. Also that kida of information is mostly used against you.

High for me, except when running pcmark04, then I turn it off.
I see up to a 12 FPS boost in CS:S from low to high.

from those same people though. Also released information via the website or from posts or made by ATI officals in the public forums, on in articals. If I'm not sure and can't find it I "play" dumb. (Also for example statments made by the CEO and other public officals via QA or during quaterly results being reported can key you in to alot of nifty info..)

Well, here is a list of the executables found in ati3duag.dll, so I assume this is the current set of apps that may or may not have any specific Catalyst AI optimizations:

If anyone has had any experience with any of the above listed .exe's and AI please post what setting worked best for you.
Just a quick side question: Quote:

Edit: I guess what I'm really asking is, do you have to launch a profiled game from the Tray Tool's created shortcut or does the profile take effect whenever you run the exe specified in that profile?

You just create a profile that points to the .exe and then it doesn't matter how you launch it, ATT knows about it and applies the profile. You can verify that this is happening because you will see the desktop go dark briefly the same way it does when you change some Direct3D setting in ATI's CP.

So for Source, should I just make a profile that points to the main hl2.exe in the hl2 folder, then it will work for anything source related? (css, hl2dm, hl2 mods)
Update: So the above plan didn't seem to work so, after deleting the profile I tested, I tried running the CSS video stress test 3 times, then manually changing from Off to Low, then running it 3 times, then manually changing it from Low to High... and saw pretty much NO decernable improvement of disadvantage in the average frame-rate. So I'm just going to stick with "Low" for now.... also, I did this test after a restart, but I ran it a few times before restarting and was getting a few fps higher than any that I got during the full test (after the restart).... what gives?

After the first time you run a benchmark, your machine will have loaded and cached a bunch of the game data, textures, and so forth in memory. Running the benchmark again will generally give you slightly better numbers. Some people run a benchmark 3x or 5x times, and choose the median score (not the average)...
Obviously, the more RAM you've got, the more stuff can get preloaded and stick around in RAM; with 1GB, as you have, most games will fit entirely into RAM and never need to hit the hard drive at all (well, at least before this year's crop of resource hogs).
