I have experienced this problem with both the current omega driver (2.6.71) and with the one I dl'ed earlier (2.6.53), but never with my original ATI driver. Basically what happens is, in various applications (firefox, half life 2, halo) I get this glitch where the 3 basic colors seem to separate on my screen causing massive image problems. The only screenshot I have of it right now only shows the blue messing up, but I've also seen yellow distorted over the screen too. When I'm playing halo, it tends to mess up in a checkerboard pattern, but in firefox it just smears across the screen as shown below. Then, after a few minutes, it goes away. Any ideas how to fix it other than to uninstall omega?
Apparently photobucket automatically converts images to jpg's, which smoothed out a lot of the distortion I had on my screen. For reference, that background is supposed to be one continuous color. All the grains of color scattered over the screen are the result of my glitch, including the band of color near the top and the bands of color over that "planet". Further, it appears that once a graphic has been screwed up by this glitch, even if my computer fixes itself, when I look at the graphic later it still appears glitched. That's what's happening in this image; I've loaded the webpage again but the images are still messed up, while the rest of my browser is fine. You can see, for example, that the text isn't messed up, because that was regenerated when I reloaded the page.
