Dual card system tweaks with Omega
I want to use the Omega drivers in my system to get the best out of it, but I'm having major problems. My system uses 2 GXF cards:
Radeon 9800se 128Mb AIW card (primary display & games) Radeon 7000 (secondary) The omega ATI tray tools only seems to pick up the radon 7000 - not suprising as when an AGP and PCI card are in the same system it picks up the PCI by default, but I want to play with both cards. I want to test n tweak and OC the primary 9800se (as well as soft mod to a 9800 pro) and tweak the 7000 to get the best out of it too. I'm getting quite poor FPS in half life 2 related games (specifically DoD: S - around 15-20 fps but it can drop into the 5-10 range. Choppy) I've tried to tweak the 7000 on it's own but now my 9800se seems slow while browsing. I have a nasty suspicion that it's reset my GPU clock and mem on that to 150Mhz as well as on the 7000........ How is this possible with the Omega drivers? I've tried removing the 7000 and seeing if the tool just picks up the 9800se on a fresh boot, but the tool doesn't seem to work when I do that (I think it's trying to display on the 2nd monitor that isn't there) Any ideas? |

ATI Tray Tools work with primary Video adater. If you set PCI as primary - it will work with PCI. If you set AGP as primary - it will for work with it.
Just exit from ATT before changing primary video board. BTW why you need 7000 in your system if you already have dual head 9800??? |

That's my problem. The 9800se is set as my primary display within windows but the ATI tool is reporting on the 7000 instead. I think it's because the 7000 is the PCI card. The machine boots and displays the POST etc on the primary PCI card (as a PCI takes priority over an AGP), and it's only when windows gets going that it switched primary to the AGP card.
And I've tried switching both into primary display in windows but the tool just reports on the same card with the same clock speeds. My 9800se is not a dual display card (except output to TV), so I got a cheap PCI card to run as a second display. Last edited by Crook; Oct 8, 2005 at 11:16 PM. |

Sorry if this is/has been posted elsewhere. Only tweak I know of that I use is for the DoD:S(works with other steam games also. Go yo Play Games>game name in your case DoD:S> right click the game>click properties> click launch options> then paste this in "-developer 1 -nojoy -noipx -console -dxlevel 70 -refresh 180 -sv_robust_explosions 0 -fog_enable_water_fog 0 -cl_show_splashes 0 -r_fastzreject 1 -r_sse 1 -r_sse2 1 -r_mmx 1 -r_dynamic 0 -fpsmax 999 -fps_max 999" without the quotes> then click close.
I get an fps of around 70-110 depending whats going on. You miss out on some detail like hdr but hey you get alot more fps =p hope that helps you some |

To make AGP as primary even at boot stage, you have to put "Init display from" (or somethink simillar) option in MoBo BIOS. There are should be 2 options, PCI and AGP.

There are no such options on my mobo (asus p4s800) unfortunately. I've flashed my bios to the most recent update to see if it is included there, but it isn't. It has just got AGP aperture size (set at 8X) and Video memory (set at 128mb). Nothing about init display or similar and nothing to select from AGP or PCI.
And Xploit - I'll try that BUT my card should be capable of playing HL2 at around the 30-40 FPS range, which I'd be happy with. Getting 7-15 FPS is unacceptable and I don't want to lower my experience (down all the way to DX7 when my card is DX9 capable) for a hardware problem that I should be able to fix. Just tried it and those settings crash my system totally - lots of random dots across the secondary monitor (even when not enabled in windows!) Last edited by Crook; Oct 9, 2005 at 05:10 PM. |

According to the manual for your mobo there is a setting option to select the primary video card (PCI or AGP) - but it is not immediately visible under the Advanced settings tab...
Under the Advanced tab in your bios setup page, scroll down below I/O Device Configuration and you should see PCI Configuration. Enter that, then the setting you are looking for is Primary VGA Bios - you can toggle that back and forth between PCI VGA Card and AGP VGA Card... Give that a shot...

OK, how stupid do I feel right now? I'm so used to clicking carefully through BIOS that it never ocurred to me that the menus scroll. Got AGP as primary and now the omega tweaks tool shows the correct settings so I can play with them.
Thanks all

Ahhhhhhhhh, but a slight new problem. When it was the PCI card, the Show 3D Renderer worked fine. Now it all APPEARS to work, but no window shows. I'd like to run the Find Max for GPU and MEM, but last time I clicked on it it crashed the PC - black screen, monitors off. Any ideas? D3D games work fine BTW.
